ROAR OUT TO MAKE TWO FROM TWO

21 Feb 2015
Shepparton News - Matthew Galea

The mood is a positive one in the Cobram Roar camp.

Fresh, or not-so-fresh as it was, off the defeat of Glen Waverley in the FFA Cup Victorian qualifying rounds, the Roar will hope to go back-toback when St Kevin’s Old Boys come to town today.

The fixture forms part of the first round of FFA Cup Victorian Preliminaries.

The State League Five outfit should possess similar qualities to the Glen Waverley side the Roar beat 2-1 last week, although arrives with a reputation for a more physical style of play.

That does not trouble Roar playing-coach Adam Gatcum, though, with the Cobram mentor confident his side is more prepared this week than last.

‘‘We’ve trained Monday, Wednesday and (last night), so we’ve got a fully-fit squad,’’ Gatcum said.

‘‘We were very sore on Monday, but the tempo of Wednesday’s session was really good.

‘‘The 90 minutes last week can only help us as well.’’

Gatcum said he hoped to have some new players to pick from this week, pending registration, which would improve the depth of his squad.

‘‘It looks like we might have a couple more local boys coming in, which should give usmore depth,’’ Gatcum said.

‘‘We believe this team is on a similar par to Glen Waverley, but they’re quite physical.

‘‘We’re quite a big, physical side ourselves, though, and we’re strong through the middle of the park with pace on the wings, which can hurt teams.

‘‘Plus old boy Michael Startari (who scored the Roar’s two goals last week) has his eye in for goal, so hopefully he can grab himself another one.’’

The game kicks off at Apex Reserve at 3 pm today.

Should the Roar win, it will get a third-straight home game, with the winner of today’s tie handed a home game against Fitzroy City.
