Shepparton United has hit the ground running in the FFV Goulburn North-East women’s division one competition.

The Blues occupy top spot following the opening day of the new season thanks to a 5-1 dispatching of Tatura at Howley Oval on Sunday.

Teenage rising star Olivia Cornall enjoyed her day, scoring a hat-trick in the under-15 and under-16 competition, before backing up to hit a brace in the top-flight.

Cornall’s efforts were complemented by goals to Sarah Loverso, Kerry Hammersley and Rezwana Baqiri.

United’s second-half display was a joy to behold when you consider the game was in the balance at halftime with the score 2-1.

The only goal for the home side came courtesy of Tameeka Morrissey.

Cobram Roar defeated Shepparton South 3-0 in the other division one clash of the round, but goal-scoring details were unavailable at time of going to print. Shepparton SC had the bye. Round two matches have Shepparton United and Shepparton South squaring off, while Cobram
