COBRAM POSTS ANOTHER RIP-ROARING VICTORY

COBRAM POSTS ANOTHER RIP-ROARING VICTORY

Shepparton News - By Gregor Mactaggart

The noises coming from the Cobram Roar are growing louder.

The newly-merged club made it two from two in the FFV Goulburn North-East men’s division one competition thanks to a 5-0 success against Shepparton on Sunday.

Right midfielder Andrew Zito hit a brace for the Roar, with Michael Startari, Spiro Vourgaslis and captain Sam Grasso also getting on the scoresheet.

Cobram coach Adam Gatcum said the final scoreline did not necessarily indicate how difficult the contest was for his side.

‘‘The scoreline did us a few favours,’’ Gatcum said.

‘‘We were leading 2-0 at half-time after having the upper hand and then Shepparton came out ready to play after the break.

‘‘They had a good crack at us for the first 10 or so minutes, but we weathered the storm and then responded.

‘‘Our last three goals came in the last 15 minutes, which showed we ran the game out well.’’

Gatcum could not be any happier with the way the Roar has started its debut season as a new entity.

‘‘To be two from two is pleasing, but just as pleasing has been the fact we’ve kept two clean sheets,’’ he said.

‘‘Our right back Marius Williams, centre-half Aaron Feldtmann and goalkeeper Jack Dovey all played well.’’

Gatcum remains adamant that Cobram has room to improve, despite the bright start.

‘‘We’re still far from the finished article,’’ he said.

‘‘So it’s good to be winning when you’re not quite playing at your top.’’
