SHEPPARTON PUTS UP A SPIRITED FIGHTBACK TO GET THE BETTER OF UNITED AND SECURE FIRST POINTS

Shepparton produced a stirring second-half fightback to record a memorable 2-1 FFV Goulburn North East women’s division one victory against Shepparton United at Central Park on Sunday.

United had a 1-0 lead at the main break

Jessie Barassi and teenager Alicia Rowan, who has been one of the shining lights in the youth ranks, made timely contributions to earn Shepparton its first three points of the top-flight season.

It was a fine all-round performance from the Reds, who had conceded 15 goals in their previous two games before Sunday’s triumph.

Shepparton has now climbed to fourth spot on the ladder by virtue of the win, while United is now third on goal difference.

Shepparton South is second after putting six goals past bottom side Tatura.

South dictated proceedings at McEwen Reserve fromthe get-go with the visitors only fielding 10 players.

Samantha Mackay sealed her second hattrick is as many weeks and Grace Zito posed a constant threat, highlighted by two goals.

Captain Jacki Lombardozzi also capped a typically industrious performance with a goal.

Tatura deserved credit for not throwing in the towel despite its numbers disadvantage.

League leader Cobram Roar had the bye, but still owns top spot with nine points having scored 13 goals and conceding none in its first three matches.

Shepparton South and Shepparton United are locked on six ahead of Shepparton (3), with Tatura (0) rounding out the table.
