Wolves Salute Before 801 Fans

On Saturday night the Joondalup Basketball Stadium presented its final ever regular season SBL games, with the evening titled 'Farewell JBS'.

Neither the games, nor the crowd, would disappoint.

A modern era stadium record of 801 people were in attendance to see the Wolves claim two important victories against the Southwest Slammers, and establish their play-off ladder positions.

The night was full of nostalgia and characters of the Wolfpack's more than three decades in the stadium, many witnessing their first game for some time, and their first taste of the club's now firmly cemented position and commitment to League LeadershipTM.

WOMEN

The Slammers headed to Joondalup Basketball Stadium on Saturday night needing to win by a big margin and then hope the Redbacks also suffered a big loss to the Eagles.

In the end neither happened and South West’s task was always a big one when import Brittany Hodges wasn’t able to suit up.

The Lady Wolfpack couldn’t move from sixth position but geared up for their quarter-final battle with the Lightning with a strong performance to win by 17 points in the 250th SBL appearance of guard Kelli HAYWARD

Klara WISCHER ended the night with 25 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Wolves with Chelsea BELCHER contributing 18 points and three steals.

Shani AMOS added eight points, seven rebounds and five assists for Joondalup, Nikita MARTIN seven points and four boards, Ellyce IRONMONGER six points and eight rebounds, and Shanice SWAIN six points.

MEN

The Wolves and Slammers have both shown they are deserving to be Men's Championship contenders this season setting the scene for a tremendous contest at Joondalup Basketball Stadium.

It was the final ever regular season game in the building and more than 800 people were on hand for the occasion and they were treated to a tremendous game of basketball.

The Wolves had threatened to open a match-winning lead by three quarter-time having led by as much as 17 points and still being 11 points up heading into the fourth.

But the Slammers came out inspired to start the fourth term starting with a triple from Travis Vogel, and an offensive board and put from him as well.

The fouling out of veteran big man Clive Weeden did threaten to take the Slammers out of the contest given the Wolves had Ryan Wright inside, but in his first game back from a season-threatening knee injury, Travis Durnin came up huge in the fourth quarter for the Slammers.

With Teny Puot catching fire as well and Tre Nichols, Michael Lay and Brian Voelkel all making plays, the Slammers picked up some exciting momentum and even got within two with a Durnin lay in.

But the Wolves continued to have the answers with Ben IRONMONGER and Trian ILIADIS icing the win at the line but they had plenty other players stand tall on the night.

WRIGHT finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds with ILIADIS contributing 17 points, six assists and five boards, IRONMONGER 12 points, six assists and four rebounds, Rob HUNTINGTON nine points and seven boards, Rhys SMYTH eight points and Damian MATACZ eight boards and seven rebounds.
