2023 WABL Recap - Round 15

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This Sunday, 23rd July, the Wolves ended the day with a terrific winning record of 21 wins and 13 losses. 

The Under 12 boys ended the day with a 3-1 record. The Champs Team won 60-40 against the Perry Lakes team and remain on top of the ladder. Team 2 continues to roll with another win. This one a 51-31 victory over Lakeside who are also on top of their ladder. Team 3 had a close game and fell just short to Lakeside, 50-61. Team 4 had a 20-point win against Hills Raiders.

The Under 12 Girls had a dominant 4-0 day. The Champs team had an exciting 2-point win against Hawks, 38-36. After getting ahead early, the Wolves made just enough to hang in there for the win versus a Hawks team that was surging at the end. Team 2 had a big 43-24 win over the Raiders. As usual for this team, the scoring was well balanced, but Harriet Kendall (11) and Arya Grinceri (10) did lead the way. Team 3 also had a great win in a tightly contested 31-28 game versus the Warwick 1 team. They had a terrific 12-4 fourth quarter to close the game. Team 4 had a great win against the Cougars, 41-22. Aeris Edmonds led the team with 9, and Lily Stefanski and Camille Hoskins had 8.

The Under 14 Boys went 3-1. The Champs team had one of their best games of the year, beating the Hawks 54-43. Harry Connolly had a big 17-point, 11 rebound performance. Team 2 lost by only 2 points, 43-45. James Arnatt had 11-points in the loss. Team 3 had a blowout win over the Magic, scoring over 100 points. Team 4 had a 2-point victory over the Suns, 51-49. Dylan Thomson had 19-points in the very exciting game.

The Under 14 Girls went 2-2. The Champs girls lost to Hawks 61-46 and are now 5th on the ladder. Team 2 had a brilliant 57-55 win versus the Hills Raiders 1s. Zoe French had a massive 22-point game in the win. Team 3 lost a difficult game to Hills 2. Eve Kallis, Mya Pasic, and Amelia Weaver all tied to lead the team in scoring. Team 4 had a terrific 43-26 win against the Eagles 2s. Jaylyn Basaran (14) and Amelia Albrecht (11) had big games in the win.

The Under 16 Boys were 2-2 on the day. The Champs boys had a heart-pounding game in a 103-101-point win against Hawks. Sol Herewini-Kapea had 23 points which included the game-winning offensive rebound and putback finish with 20 seconds left in the game. Team 2 lost by 2 to Flames. Team 3 had balanced scoring in a 71-48 win over Raiders. Owen Baker led the team in scoring with 14, but the team had 6 players with 7 points or more. Team 4 lost 79-84 to Hawks. Kai Starr and Hudson Rampling had big games trying to work from behind, but the team fell just short in the end. 

The Under 16 Girls went 3-1. The Champs girls had a great win against the Slammers, 64-48. Jannali Nelson (13) and Lea Mirthil (11) both had big efforts to push the team over the line. Team 2 had a big 77-40 win against the Eagles that included a huge 23-point performance from Luca Kuhn. Team 3 also had a big win, 53-26 against the Magic. Lucy Corden continues her strong form with a 13-point game this round. The girls remain undefeated at 15-0. Team 4 had a 54-42 victory over Cougars. The difference was a superb 3rd quarter that went 25-6 in the Wolfpack’s favour. Charlotte Watson and Andi Morris both had big 14-point games.

The Under 18 Boys had a 2-2 record. The Champs boys had a huge win against the Cougars, 77-73. Trailing for most of the game, they had a massive second half to come away with a win. Max Bennett had 22 in the win.  Team 2 was down multiple players and managed to stay very close with the 2nd place Hawks for the entire game, but ultimately fell 97-103 in the end. Team 3 had a big 84-56 win over Hawks. Scoring was balanced but was led by Kayne Ferguson with 20. Team 4 lost a tough game to Hawks. Team 4 lost to the Hawks.

The Under 18 Girls group went 2-2 on the day also. The Champs team had one of those games where they pressured the ball extremely well and defended great overall, but they just could not make layups or shots at their normal clip. They lost to top-of-the-ladder Cockburn 62-72. Team 2 had a great 70-40 win over Warwick. Chloe Goldsmith was absolutely on fire with a 30-point game. Team 3 had a blowout win over Magic. Ava Tomazin had a whopping 34 points. Team 4 stayed close for a while versus Perry Lakes, but the game ended up blowing out a bit at the end.  

The Under 20 Men went 0-2. The Champs team lost 81-107 to Redbacks. They got down early, so despite playing an even second half, the damage was already done to generated a lopsided game. Team 2 had a close game that was a loss entirely due to the 4th quarter. The Wolves went into the final quarter up 71-59, but then finished the game down 85-93.
