5 keys to building program success

Striving for excellence from your players, staff and your processes in these 5 key areas will help your program become successful. Neither is more important than the other, however none will improve without the others.

Focusing on these 5 things daily in your program will help your players become the best version of themselves they can be.

(1) Mental - "Basketball is played from the neck up” - Bobby Knight

(2) Physical - “Those who have invested the most are the last to surrender” - Vince Lombardi

(3) Technical - “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit” - Aristotle

(4) Tactical - “Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster” - Sun Tzu

(5) Cultural- “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation because your character is who you really are, whileyour reputation is merely who other think you are” John Wooden

'Mentally'; we are looking for improvements in key criteria and a few example attributes in all our players.

Toughness - The ability to play during uncomfortable situations, does a player have a high level of self belief and confidence, do they push themselves to the best of their ability, are they willing to put their body on the line and do they make multiple efforts.

Decision making - The ability to make the right pass at the right time, gets a great shot over a good shot, makes the right rotations on defense, communicates when under duress.

Basketball IQ - Knowing the time and situation of a game, the tempo of a game, phases of offesne, reads and reacts on defense, understands help defense.

Adversity - Accepts when things aren’t going their way, bad calls, missed shots, being subbed out of the game, accepts their role and within the team, handles mishaps during the game and does not lose focus, and is positive in times of adversity

Pressure - Able to absorb scoreboard pressure, relishes physical pressure, fortify themselves against outside pressures, rises to the big occasions, 5 “C’s” - Clutch, Composure, Concentration, Confident and Commitment.

Train hard, enjoy your Basketball!
