Chairmans Report
What a great start to the finals last weekend with 2 fantastic matches of footy. The Hawks and Saints had a typical major final with a hard tackling and high pressure game. The Saints got off to a great start and held sway foe three quarters however the Hawks never gave up and managed to arrest the lead late in the game and win by 3 points. Then on Sunday last year’s premiers the Sea Eagles took on the surprise packets the Andergrove Kangaroos in what most pundits thought would be a win to the Eagles however the Kangarooss had other ideas and jumped the Eagles early to take a handy lead and were never headed to win by 27 points.
It was pleasing to see a big crowd at Rogers Oval and the crowd was very vocal and well behaved. On Sunday with the out of town team and the new team the crowd was a lot less and somewhat disappointing, however, what was even more disappointing was the amount of people that didn’t use the designated entry or the designated food and beverage areas and support local footy. Without the support of local fans it makes it difficult for AFL Mackay and local clubs to come up with the revenue to support clubs and develop the game. Let’s hope we see a huge crowd today and help Bakers Creek rebuild.
A few reminders:
Don’t forget about the Christmas raffle and please buy some tickets as it all goes back to footy in the end. The stocking will be on display at McGinns. Thanks Dave Evans
Ron Barassi will be here for the GF breakfast so get your tickets to get a seat $50.00/head. Contact Steve Johnson.
And finally the presentation night will be on preliminary final night at 7.30pm at Harrup Park.
The preliminary final today and who would have thought we would still be talking about the Andergrove Kangaroos. The North Mackay Saints will be pitting themselves against the plucky Kangaroos at Etwell Park Bakers Creek and what a game it will be. Dave Edwards has a history of getting teams to play their best footy in September and has done it again and further highlights his coaching ability. Clint McLeod the Saints coach is in his first year as coach and has done a tremendous job to get his team here and with a couple of injuries this week it will test his coaching and his teams depth. The Saints have finals experience on their side and the Kangaroos have youth and enthusiasm. The Kangaroos have beaten the Saints this year and I think this will be terrific game of footy however the Saints should win due to experience by 17 points .
Good luck to all clubs, players, coaches and umpires this weekend

Rob Hull Article from the Courier Mail by Bernie Pramberg

Rob Hull played his first AFL game for Kedron at the age of six, he has come so far in AFL since then, his achievements are many, but his proudest achievement is the introduction of the Kookaburra’s programme, a talent pathway for country football, as well as the Grogan medal in 1967. In 1980 Rob was the successful applicant of the first regional coaching director base in cairns, Rob has moved around Queensland in many different roles with AFL Queensland and is currently the Talent Development officer in Brisbane,
As rob looks back, his comment of “you had to a jack of all trades” will have many of you who know this great man smiling.
