Well what a great weekend of football the Mackay Crows under 16s had down at Rockhampton. The playing group had 2 fantastic wins over the Capricornia Cyclones and Townsville Eagles and where more than competitive against the Cape York Crusaders eventually going down by 4 goals. The Cairns Lions were by far the best team and our young crow’s squad got a real football lesson. All teams were handed out some punishment but to learn you have to play the best.

This weekend marks the beginning of the 2012 Mackay AFL premiership season, as well as a charity event for Ryan 'Scowny' Scown.

The search is on again to find who will be the 2012 NAB Auskicker of the Year

From this the boys will play the Lions Academy over the next 2 weeks culminating in our State Under 18 team being selected. Great effort from both players. Hard work does get rewarded

I was in Sydney on the weekend attending the National Umpiring Conference.

It was a great ‘get together’ for over a 100 umpire coaches from all around Australia.

Lots of things were learned, and lots of information collected to make this year a most enjoyable season for Mackay AFL Umpires.

We have the pleasure in welcoming Rebecca Riddle in to the AFL Mackay Family, Rebecca has taken up the role of Development officer, and will be based at the Lamb Street office.

AFL Mackay would like to wish Blake Cooper and Dean Cole all the best as they head of to James Cook University in Townsville.

Blake will be studying Physiology and Exercise while Dean is studying sports Medicine and Physical education.

A Big thank you for all your hard work, it was a pleasure working with two such outstanding young men, who showed Boundless energy and rapport with all the Auskick Students.

AFL Mackay is currently seeking casual staff to join our development team in 2012. Staff will be required work in the field assisting and coordinating Auskick, Sport Education, school clinics, promotions and school competitions.

The AFL Mackay Umpires Association are currently seeking all new male and female umpires for both junior and senior football in 2012.

AFL Mackay now has three new level 2 coaches with Jamie Fuhrmann of Whitsunday Sea Eagles, Craig Widdowson of Mackay City Hawks and Darryl Griffiths of North Mackay Saints all being advised that they have received their accreditation.
