Female Football
Female Football in South Australia is going through an exciting growth period. In Adelaide alone we have nine Senior Women’s Clubs; U 18 and U 16 competitions, and all-girls Auskick Centres in place. There is a Summer Academy for young girls learning the game and a Talent Academy for girls aspiring to play Representative Football.
There is also a Youth Girls Academy located in Mount Gambier. We now have a female representative pathway which includes U16 School girls, U18 Youth Girls and Open Women who participate annually in National Championships. Two U16 girls from the Port Adelaide Women’s Football Club have been selected to play in Australian Youth Girls team to play in New Zealand in October 2013. It is the intention of the AFL to have a National Televised Women’s League by 2020.
To assist in the development of female football an under 16 girls competition needs to be established in the Western Metropolitan area similar to the one existing in the NEMJFA.
