Round 13 Player of the Week - QBL Women - Traci Edwards

US import Traci Edwards has added a distinct height advantage (6’1) along with a very tough and athletic approach to the game to the Caboolture Suns team in 2009.  Suns Head Coach Paul Saltmarsh recruited Edwards out of Wisconsin-Milwaukee University in the USA and is amazed at the smooth transition she has made to the QBL in her first outing overseas.  “Traci completely dominates and once she gets the ball she is difficult to stop, going to the basket very strong” Saltmarsh said.  “She is very athletic and runs the floor well, with her biggest attribute being her presence” he said.

This presence was too much for both the Ipswich Force and Cairns Dolphins to control in Round 13 and as a result Traci Edwards is named the QBL Player of the Week. Facing the Ipswich Force on Saturday night, Edwards showed why she became Milwaukee’s all-time leading scorer in December 2008 (1882pts).  She picked up 23pts @ a quality 71%, 8rbs, 1ast, 2stls, 3blks to lead the team to a 71-55 win.  This effort was then backed up on Sunday afternoon with a massive win over the Cairns Dolphins (105-60).  Edwards showed no remorse in her dousing of the Dolphins where in a mere 18 minutes she managed 24pts @ 67%, 10rbs, 3asts, 1blk.  Currently carrying a season average of 22ppg, 10.5rpg, the Suns are wrapped to have Edwards onboard and playing at the top of her game only 3 weeks away from the playoffs.  Click here to view her QBL playing history.

Other notable efforts from Round 13 include Amy Browne of the Clippers who collected 29pts @ 66%, 7rbs, 3asts in 29 minutes in a huge win over the Dolphins; Rohanee Cox led the Meteorettes to a desperately needed win over the Cyclones (90-72) with 29pts @ 52%, 6rbs, 6asts, 1stl with the playoffs dreams still alive; the Flames’ Cherie Smith is building towards the playoffs with 20pts @ a massive 75%, 8rbs, 1ast in 29 minutes; and the Bears’ Heidi Freeburn stepped up to fill the void left by injured import Gandy with 33pts, 3rbs, 8asts, 4stls.
