The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League held the Berry Powell Medal count with 300 people in attendance at the Highland Society on Monday evening.
A very close and exciting finish saw James McNamee of the Dunolly FNC win the Berry Powell Medal with the last vote card of the evening from Mark Oxley of Newstead by two votes with Julian Field of Avoca one vote further back. McNamee, Oxley and Field were all level on 25 votes leading into the last vote card of the night in which Newstead played Dunolly. Oxley polled one vote to take the lead, only to see McNamee trump him with the final three vote of the evening to take out the award.
McNamee finished the season very strong by polling maximum votes in the final six rounds of the home and away season. The Dunolly Coach has been an inspirational leader this season. he has a very strong work ethic and continually knocks up getting the ball. McNamee is an exceptional strong mark who uses the ball to the advantage with every possession he accumulates. He is a very worthy winner of the Berry Powell Medal for season 2009.

The A Grade Netball Best & Fairest award was won by Lucy Walkley of Avoca by the narrowest of margins from Dunolly duo, Jane King and Ash Lierich.
Lucy is an agile and talented player who usually plays in the centre position but can move into a defence if required. Lucy showed great talent early in her career and was promoted to Avoca's A grade side as a junior player. Lucy talents include speed, good ball skills, a great vertical leap and the ability to read play to gain timely intercepts for her team. Lucy is a constant encourager for her team mates and a dedicated club member having played in excess of 200 games. Lucy was a member of the successful senior Interleague squad this year and is a very worthy recipient of the league's top honour.

The Reserves Football Best & Fairest Award was won by Kyle West of Harcourt Football Netball Club comfortably by four votes from Jason Runnalls of Maldon FNC.
Kyle was very consistent from rounds 11 to 14 where he polled four best on grounds in a row.
He has had an outstanding season for Harcourt leading by example as he attacks the football with much endeavor and uses the ball well to set up the Harcourt forwards. He thoroughly deserves his Best & Fairest award.

The B Grade Netball Best & Fairest was won by Jasmine Rimene of the Maryborough Rovers Football Netball Club. Jasmine won by a landslide as she stormed to the lead in Round 11 and was never headed finishing with two best on courts in the final two rounds to win by 9 votes from Jesse McRedmond of the Talbot FNC.
Jasmine is a very tight defender who usually plays in a defensive role in the goal ring or through the mid court. She displays great athleticism on the court to pull in many rebounds. She can read the play very well to also gain many intercepts for her team. Another aspect of Jasmine’s game is her ability to use great speed up the court to move the ball quickly into her side's attacking zone. Jasmine is a very worthy recipient of the B Grade Best & Fairest award.

The C Grade Netball Best & Fairest was won by Kim Williams of Maldon Football Netball Club by three votes from Jo Beavis of the Avoca FNC.
Kim is a very tough mid court player who gives her all each week to ensure her team has the best chance of success. Kim is a long standing player at the Maldon FNC and is a strong motivator and mentor on the court as she constantly provides encouragement and feedback to her team mates. Kim is a dedicated club member of the Maldon FNC having served as a delegate for many years and a very worthy winner of the C Grade Best & Fairest.
