The Pinoy Basketball in Qatar (PIBAQ) opened the 15th Season of men’s basketball “President Alvita Cup 2014” with two equally exciting games featuring among the league’s best teams at the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) Multi-Training Gym, recently.

Defending champion Power Horse Energy Drink team went down 65-85 to Qat-Art Design One Family after trailing behind through out the match in the first featured game of the day.

Anthony Isip led the rally of One Family, contributing 24 points, to secure their first win of the season. Hussein Gandarosa also had an impressive start with 20 points while Raagas and Dumangcas each made 13 points to seal their team’s 20-points lead against the Power Horse.

Meanwhile, team Batang Sanna suffered a heart breaking loss to QAFAC squad, 69-64. Batang Sanna maintained their lead until the third quarter. The game went to half-time break with Batang Sanna leading by one point, 31-29. They were dominating until the third quarter wrapping up the periods with a seven-point lead, 49-42.

However, the tables turned in the fourth quarter. Last season’s Most Improved Player Dan Constantino demonstrated his “never say die” spirit and led Qafac’s comeback from behind. Batang Sanna held on its three-point lead with almost four minutes left in the clock.

But Constantino shocked the Sanna Boys with a three point shot to tie the game at 60. Peejay Santos and Jeffrey Limioco made sure that Sanna was not able to retaliate and led their opponent to end the game at 69-64. The hero of the match Constantino finished with 20 points.

The opening of another exciting season of PIBAQ was graced by Cultural Attached’ at the Philippine Embassy Doha Richard Billedo, Retail Field Manager of President Alvita-Arizona Trading Co. W.L.L. Ghassan El Raahi, Joy Romero of Diana Jewellery & Watches and Boracay Filipino Restaurant owner/operator Wilson Galicia.

Special awards were also presented to the selected participating teams and their members on the occasion. Best Muse award was bagged by Mary Joanne Grace Martinez of Qat-Art Design (One Family) team whereas Best in Uniform (Second Division) and Best in Uniform (40-Above Division) went to QAFAC and ETC Solutions.
