2011 FBL season: WU, Spoilers down foes

Western Union showed a heart of a champion as they muscled their way to beat a tough Ilocandia Bulls, 90-85. The game saw both teams tied at 85-all in the dying minutes of the game when Western Union’s Bong Alambra spilt his charities in the free throw line to give them an 86-85 breather.

 Then Erwin Senadre too matters into his own hands as he clipped four points down the wire to seal them the win. The Bulls had a chance to come back but Joeger Supnet failed to connect on a back-to-back three points try.

 Senadre led the scoring chores for Western Union with 24 while teammates Jefferson Cruz and Alambra added 18 and 14 markers respectively as they now take solo lead in the team standings with a 5-0 win-loss record.

 Pesky shooting guard Dennis Castro led the Bulls with 19 while Jun Villena had 16 as they Bulls suffered their first blow for a 4-1 tally.

 On the other hand, team Spoilers, sponsored by FR Constructions, barged their way into the winning column as they trashed the Slashsers, 82-78. Marvic Ngchar and Aries Echanova did much of the damage for the Spoilers as they tallied 24 and 23 baskets, in that order to lift them out of the cellar with a 1-3 count.

 George Concepcion topscored for the Slashers with 24 points as they slip down to 2-3 in the team standings.

 In other games, team Jaguar drubbed PNQ Rams, 81-59 while Mam’l Divers Rangers routed Surangel and Sons, 74-64.

 Games will resume on May 1 with Hanpa Cardinals versus Spoilers at 11 a.m. followed by the PNQ Rams-Slashers match at 12:30 p.m. as the Ilocandia Bulls meets the Aloha Maid Choppers at 2 p.m. while Western Union will test the Guardians in the main game at 3:30 p.m.
