Spoilers, Bulls score win in FBL

Defending champion FR Spoilers and Ilocandia Bulls improved their standings going into the second round after beating separate rivals, Sunday in the 2012 season of the Filipino Basketball League at the Palau National gym.

FR Spoilers nailed their eight win at the expense of MJ Rangers, 125-86. The Spoilers showed their supremacy after taking a 28-14 lead in the opening quarter. From there, they never looked back as they kept their clan record at 8-0 in the team standings.

Coco Gonzales paced the Spoilers with 41 points while Michael Bombita added 18 to their cause. Nico Hinoza led the scoring chores for the Rangers with 20 markers as they are 3-4.

On the other hand, the Ilocandia Bulls needed an extra period to tame the Rams/Guardians, 75-65 in overtime. The game was tied at 56-all after Clinton Rivera scored on a three point shot.

In overtime, the Bulls muscled their way in the paint as they used their size advantage to pull away with the victory. Raul Osias topscored for the Bulls with 21 to move 4-3 in the team standings while Rivera topbilled for the Rams/Guardians with 26 baskets as they still remain winless sporting a 0-8 mark.

In other games, Western Union spanked the Choppers, 94-69 while Surangel and Sons bested Hanpa Cardinals, 81-74.

Games resume on May 27 with the last games for the first round featuring Hanpa Cardinals versus Choppers at 11 a.m. followed by the MJ Rangers-Surangel and Sons tussle at 12:30 p.m. as Ocean View will meet FR Spoilers at 2 p.m. for the Masters League while the Ilocandia Bulls will test Western Union in the main game at 3:30 p.m.  By Peter Erick L.
