SUMMER JUNIOR CAMP A SUCCESS

All Star 5 Girls

The Camp comprised 3 days of skills learning, both individual and team skills.  The coaches at the Camp did an excellent job in helping these young players to understand the fundamentals of the game.  The boys attended each morning from 9-11.30am and the girls from 2-4.30pm.

While the overall attendance was a bit disappointing at just on 35, the enthusiasm and athleticism displayed suggests that the NDP in 2010 will be a success in helping to develop future national players for Palau.

On the final 2 days of the Camp, the players were divided into teams and played a round robin tournament.  The ability of the players to pick up on the coaching tips provided by the coaches was amazing.  The execution of offence and defence was as good as most NBL teams this year.  With players of good size in both boys and girls and lots of athleticism, all looks well for the future.

The school coaches attending the Camp comprised: Jolene Rafael (Meyuns Elementary School), Obak Joshua (George B Harris Elementary School), Sabbah Delong (Palau High School) and Ngelechel Miko (Aimeliik Elementray School).  These coaches were assisted by National Youth Men's Head Coach, Logan Ngiriou and several members of the National Youth Men's Squad.  All coaches received a Camp Manual with drills and teaching points that they will be able to use in the future.

At the end of the Camp, NBDO Topps Sungino presented every player and coach with  Summmer Camp 2009 T-shirt, which the players proudly wore home (and were seen wearing these for several hours around town).  In addition the NBDO told players that they need to practice the skills shown at the Camp at home if they wanted to reach the top in basketball in Palau.

Coach Logan also named the All Star 5 for boys and girls, as selected by the Camp Coaches.

Many parents attended the games on the final day and were thanked by the NBDO, coaches and players for their support.
