Game 1: Samoa vs Tonga
Welcome to Day 1 of the Rugby League Sevens games. The first battle of the Pacific Mini Games featured “The Kingdom of Tonga” against their “Manu Samoa” neighbours. Tonga opened up with a traditional Haka and Samoa responded accordingly.
Samoa kicked the game into action with Ref ______ in charge of the game. Quick passing and beautiful movement by number 4 captain Lisiate Kuli saw Tonga gain valuable possession. However, Samoa quickly turned over the ball for our first try. A try after a forty metre dash was awarded to No. 13 Tupu Ulufale of Samoa. Conversion not successful.
Half time score Samoa leads Tonga 6 points to 4
Samoa has opened the second half score with another run away try by No 6. Tanielu Pasene, the conversion unsuccessful yet again. Samoa leads the second half by 10 points to 4.
Tonga hits back with a try by captain No. 4 Lisiate Kuli with another unsuccessful try. Samoa strikes right back with another runaway try by No 7 Tom Iosefo with an unsuccessful conversion with the score remaining Samoa 14 and Tonga 8.
Tonga respond with a try to No 1. Faunga Maasi, conversion unsuccessful.
In the dying minutes of the game, Samoa is awarded with the final try on full try and is awarded to No. 5 Tevita Okati with an uncoverted try. With the final whistle Samoa winning the game 18 points to 12 over Tonga.
