Hi All
Memo form RDFNL below .
To all RDFNL Junior Clubs,
Please send this note along to any of your members who will be responsible for match day paperwork completion, Sports TG entry &/or score board attendants. Equally, you are welcome to forward to each of your junior club members if you think it will help.
As previously advised, best players & goal kickers are no longer being added to Sports TG. Clubs are still able to collect this data internally if required, but it is not to be placed into Sports TG. All historical data will have been removed from the system before Round 8 begins, we made most of the updates today and should have them completed by tomorrow night.
Entry of scores to reflect the capping – refer to the attached memo which was sent out previously. The example at the bottom of the page is for U12 (48 points). You would apply the same logic for Under 14 (60 points) and Under 16.5 (80 points). I realise this will cause a bit of confusion here & there, and happy to take calls from anyone who is struggling with the Sports TG part. We will be checking these in the office each week, so if any errors are made inadvertently, we will be able to correct at our end. I’m sure once everyone gets the hang of it that we won’t have too many issues.
Score Board attendants. Please refer to the attached memo with some examples. Best I can offer here, is to reach an agreement as a club as to how this is handled. Easiest way might be just leave the score board as is, once the capped amount has been reached. It’s understandable that it may take a few weeks for everyone to get a handle on this aspect – would simply ask that all clubs are patient – and importantly – work together to achieve the correct outcomes.
One thing I had forgotten to clarify previously – these changes apply to home & away games only. Once we reach finals, we will not apply a score cap, and will capture full scores, goal kickers & best players for media reports.
I think in years to come, we will look back on this and recognise that it was a positive move for junior football in our League. I realise there will be detractors out there, so please continue to make them aware this change is designed to improve overall enjoyment from all participants, and more importantly encourage the coaches of our stronger teams to rotate players to all parts of the ground so that everyone has an opportunity to be involved in the play. If doing this helps to keep more players involved in football year on year, then we will have achieved a great outcome.
Many thanks to all Junior Club presidents for their support of these new initiatives, and good luck this coming weekend with the changes.
RDFNL Junior Score Capping Process
- • Capping margins have been based on length of time for matches in the 3 divisions where scores are captured. Under 12 play 48 minutes, so the cap is 48 points, Under 14 play 60 minutes, so the cap is 60 points & Under 16 play 80 minutes, so the cap is 80 points
- • Once the margin reaches the cap, the score board will remain frozen with the current score
- • In the event that the team who are losing the match continue to score after the score board is frozen, scores can be updated at the end of a quarter, but the margin on the board may never exceed the cap for the age group in question. Some examples of how this could work as follows:
- • Under 12 game. Team A are leading 10.2 (62) to Team B 2.2 (14) during the third quarter. The score board is frozen for the remainder of the 3rd quarter. If Team B has then managed to score 1.1 to nil for the remainder of the quarter, the score can be updated on the board to read 10.2 (62) to 3.3 (21). Scores can then be captured in the final quarter until such time as the margin has again reached 48 points.
- • Under 14 game. Team A are leading 12.4 (76) to Team B 2.3 (15) during the second quarter. The margin has now exceeded 60 points and the scoreboard is frozen. Team A kick another 1.1 to nil for the remainder of the quarter, so the score board would remain at 12.4 (76) to 2.3 (15). Assuming Team A would therefore outscore Team B in quarter 3, the score can either remain where it was at half time – or can be updated with Team B actual score and then manually calculated for Team A score. Such as Team B score 1.1 during the third quarter to take their total score to 3.4 (22), Team A score could be manually adjusted to read 13.4 (82).
- • This aspect will be optional per home club, and most likely depend upon the ability of person operating the score board. Clubs may decide that once the score has reached the cap, easiest thing to do will be leave the score as is for the rest of the match.
- • Goal Umpires will continue to capture scores throughout the entire match and hand cards to team manager at end of the game
- • Entry to Sports TG will be based on the losing team score. If the final margin exceeds the points cap, the score to be entered will reflect the points cap. If the final margin has fallen back below the cap then the actual score is what will be entered.
- • In all instances where the final score has exceeded the cap, quarter by quarter scores should be reflective of what the losing side has scored. An (Under 12) example of where Team A has gone past the cap in the second quarter, the final result in Sports TG could look something like this:
Team A 5.3 (33) 9.4 (56) 10.4 (62) 10.6 (64)
Team B 0.2 (2) 1.2 (8) 2.2 (14) 2.4 (16)
