U12s 12 May v Sydney Uni

The fog on the wet green grass looked great. The pitch was slippery however at half time we went in equal. They had the height and home ground advantage. We passed and dribbled however the ball would not hit the back of the net. A spinning ball got us on the wet grass. Our heads remained high with the ever present positive attitude. Great effort girls

Match Reports Round 2 - 7 April 2013

U12s
So with a bit of wonder in their eyes they travelled, to their first away game. If you blinked you missed the highlights. The Sutherland goal net shook and it shook hard. By thhe third occasion the ref would have had concerns the net would not see out the game. Sutherland Tried to go over the top and the magic of the headers came out, pretty to watch. Brave keeping, tough defenders, the engine room with touch and pace up front, good tome will continue for all "be proud" Stingrays 3 Sutherland nil
U16's
The Stingrays girls looked strong from the first whistle, holding majority of the possession and looking in control of the game. With some good build up play from the midfield through to the strikers we were unlucky not to get an opening goal, all we were missing was the final shot on target. With a small lapse in concentration and a miscommunication in the back line the Sharks managed to score the only goal of the first half with their only opportunity on goal. The girls continued to press forward and controlled the game, they were unlucky not to go in at half time equal or in front.
The second half was much the same as the first, with the Stingray girls holding majority of the possession. After coming on early in the seconds half Caitlin Ladic opened the Stingray’s scoring with a well-placed shot. The Stingrays continued to press with another substitute Brianna Smith again scoring with a well-placed shot getting our second. With the team holding their shape and working for each other it was hard for the Sharks to try to get back into the game. With a strong solo run from the midfield, Lucy Nolan sealed the win after beating of a number of Shark players and slotting the ball neatly passed the goal keeper. Great win today girls keep up the hard work.
Reserve Grade
After a great start to the season in rd 1, stingrays were looking to back that up again against Sutherland , and didn’t disappoint. The girls started the game well dictating play and attacking Sutherland in there half. Stingrays had to wait until halfway through the first half to hit the net as Sutherland were managing to hold them out . Once this happened the girls settled in and it wasn’t long before we were 2-0 up and looking comfortable as halftime approached. Once the 2nd half commenced Sutherland came out looking to get back in the game, and they snatched a goal back via a deflected shot. Though this didn’t last long, as stingrays wanted there win and became vicious and clinical in front of goals and over a 15 to 20 minute period netted 4 goals and put the game beyond doubt. With a further 2 goals late on a 8-1 scoreline was how it finished which was exactly what was deserved from the hard work that all players gave .well done girls
First Grade
The girls stared well from the kick-off of running and totally dominated possession in the first half with numerous shots at goal. In the next 10 minute Erica Halliway was taken down in the box & a penalty was awarded. Ann Mayo stepped up & converted scoring the first goal of her season with a beautiful strike in the bottom Right corner.
This open up the flood gates at half time the girls went into the dressing room with a 6-0 lead.
The Midfield took charge and the Cooper sisters were unstoppable feeding the front line with through balls as well as bagging a number of goals them self’s and YES you guessed it Captain Carney scored her 2nd Hat trick off the 2013 season.

In the second half the girls once again dominated the game with 4 more goals Jess Ellis slotted one from a good timed header, Special mention to Kristen Lee & Michell Foscarini who played brilliant in defence and a special mention to Goal keeper Sarah Gollop who kept her second clean sheet of the season.
Also the blistering speed & crossing of Erica Halliway had the opposition in tatters. She was running at them at will .Hope she can keep this pace for the rest of the season.

First Grade Round 1 - 24 March 2013

With the disappointment of last year Grand Final loss newly appointed Coach Steve Srbinovski put the girls thru their paces in the off season with a vigorous pre season training schedule and the announcement that the girls will be playing a new formation 4 3 3 this year . The girls were excited and keen to start the official 2013 season at home against Northern Tigers.

The girls came out of the blocks full of running and totally dominated possession in the first half with numerous shots at goal. In the 5 minute Stingrays Captain Carney scored the first goal of the season with a beautiful strike, and to the relief of new Coach Srbinovski . At half time the girls went into the dressing room with a 3-0 lead and YES you guessed it Captain Carney scored all 3, Scoring the first Hat trick off the 2013 season.

Coach Srbinovski had all praises to the girls on the way they were playing in the new 4 3 3 formation, but he told the girls we do not stop at 3-0 nil.

The girls went back out in the second half with new Instructions from Coach Srbinovksi and once again dominated the game with 4 more goals and YES Captain Carney scored her 4th from the penalty spot, already looking to add another trophy to the trophy cabinet with golden boot award for the 2013 season, Emma Cobb slotted one past the goalkeeper, Matilda Cooper scored a brilliant goal raising above the pack to header home, top corner giving the gaol keeper no hope and Speedster Halloway securing the first win and 3 points off the season with a well taken goal.

Special mention to Kristen Lee who played brilliant in defence and a special mention to Goal keeper Sarah Gollop who kept her first clean sheet of the season with many more to come.

A great start to the 2013 season, the girls now have a break over Easter to eat some Easter chocolate before they travel to Sutherland to play Sutherland Sharks and all I can say watch out Sutherland.

Reserve Grade Round 1 - 24 March 2013

Straight from the kick off the Stingrays looked up for their RD1 encounter and were rewarded within the first 2 minutes with a neatly finished goal from Jordan Baker. The attacking play looked really threatening early and Stingrays were dominant over their opponents Northern Tigers. Midway through the first half with some nice build up play the team had their second with Jordan Baker again netting , and then finishing a 1st half hat-trick soon after. Stingrays dominance continued and Eda Yakan grabbed a 4th before the break rewarding her 1st half efforts. Starting the 2nd half with the same intensity was always going to be hard looking so comfortable and with a few player changes to adjust to Northern tigers saw more possession ,they capitalised on this with a neatly slotted ball through the stingrays backline into a speedy striker. Not long after the Tigers got a second and thought they may be able to get back in the game. Stingrays however settled the play down and again began to dictate the game Jordan Baker went on to get her 4th of the game. Kristina Janeska got on the scoresheet late on with a tidy finish to make it 6 for the Stingrays. A great start to the new season for the team with this 6-2 win.

U16's Round 1 24 March 2013

The game started with the Stingrays holding possession with some neat passing and looking like taking the lead and control of the game early. With the team pressing high up the field looking for the opening goal Northern Tigers capitalised from a long ball counter attack. The Stingrays first touch and fitness levels let the team down as the first half progressed. The Tigers managed to get a second goal before half time in a very similar fashion to their first.
The intensity of the game remained low throughout the second half. With a few missed chances which would have brought the girls back into the game. the Stingrays were dealt a blow when the Tigers were rewarded a penalty after a handball in the box. There was a small glimmer of hope when Kaelah Austin scored to bring the score back to 3-1.though the tigers netted a forth and sealed there win.
