Werribee’s Success Comes at a Cost
The 2011 VFL season has seen the Werribee Tigers jump from 13th to a top 4 finish under the club’s first full time coach Paul Satterely. This success combined with Paul’s previous coaching record made him a prime candidate for the many assistant/development roles at AFL level
The Werribee Football Club wishes Paul all the best in his new role as development forward line coach of the Melbourne Football Club.
The 1995 Liston Trophy winner has been back at Werribee for the last three years, the first two running the club’s Academy for first and second year players and in 2011 as the first full time coach of the club. He was on a two year contract with an out clause should he get a job at AFL level.
President John Nicol, like all at the club, has mixed emotions: “It comes as no surprise that a quality individual like Paul would be on the AFL radar. The improved performance of the club this year under Paul and his team has been very good. While we are sad to see him leave Avalon Airport Oval, history tells us that another chapter will begin for Werribee under a new coach. Paul joins the likes of Alastair Clarkson, Donald McDonald and Chris Bond as former coaches of our great club who have gone onto AFL level. We wish him all the best for the future.”
Paul Satterley acknowledged the Werribee Football Club “I have really enjoyed my time at Werribee and want to thank the club for the opportunity they gave me. The support I have received from everyone at Werribee has been tremendous and I really appreciated it. I am sure the club will continue to enjoy great success on and off the field. As a past player and now former coach, I will always have a special affinity with the club and the people involved”.
Werribee will use the same sub- committee of CEO Mark Penaluna, club legend David Lyons and President John Nicol, in consultation with our AFL partner North Melbourne, to find the right man for the job for 2012.
