Tigers Season Launch 2014 By Domenic Favata
The Werribee Football held its annual season launch at the club last night, with players, coaches and supporters in attendance.
Senior coach John Lamont announced an 11 man leadership group, with a rotating captaincy, aimed at developing leadership and distributing responsibility.
Jarred Moore, Ben Warren, Scott Sherlock, Jarrod Mather, Ben Speight, Michael Sodomaco, Sam Worwald, Nathan Laracy, Addam Maric, Trent Shinners and Jake Wilson were all confirmed as the leaders for the Tigers.
“I have been so pleased with the amount of ownership and buy-in these blokes have given. They all have various levels of leadership experience and traits and we are confident in them.”
According to Lamont, having an unorthodox 11 man Leadership Group will allow for player development and a greater influence on the whole playing group, as well as improving the overall organisation of the club.
“It will probably accelerate their development as leaders. and hopefully increase their enjoyment and satisfaction in what we’re trying to do. We’ll put some structure around it in terms of responsibilities. The expectation is that the boys are disciplined and work hard.”
Senior member of the leadership group Ben Warren praised the work of Lamont over the pre-season, and said the former North Melbourne Development coach has created a buzz around the club.
“My whole experience in Victoria I have had JL [Lamont] looking over me, and when I found out he was coach it was definitely exciting. The whole playing group has really enjoyed the pre-season and are looking forward to the season coming.”
It was also announced that the club will wear the ‘Big W’ jumper this season in its 50th year celebrations, while a commemorative logo will be showcased as well.
