Tigers win for Wormald By Domenic Favata
Werribee celebrated Sam Wormald’s 100th game in style, downing the Sandringham Zebras by 67 points at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
A stern defensive effort in blustery conditions, and a spread of ten individual goal-kickers lead the Tigers to a comfortable win away from home, our third consecutive victory.
In his 100th senior game for the club, Sam Wormald captained the Tigers and inspired his teammates to a red hot start. Werribee kicked eight goals to one in the first quarter.
With the aid of a strong breeze in the first term the Tigers were outstanding. Jye Bolton started brilliantly with two goals, and Ben Brown kicked an early goal in his comeback game from injury.
Sandringham responded with the breeze and controlled much of the play in the second quarter. Though, Brown’s second goal, midway through the quarter, wrestled the momentum back. Great to see the Werribee defence conceed only four goals for the half.
With the breeze picking up after half-time, Werribee continued to dominate with an early goal to Michael Sodomaco, setting the trend for the quarter. Goals to North Melbourne listed players Kieran Harper, Mason Wood and Kayne Turner powered the Tigers to an unassailable lead.
Mason Wood’s fourth goal late in the last quarter capped off a great match for him and continued his recent form, which must be attracting the attention of the North Melbourne selectors.
The Tigers firmly stamped its top-four credentials dominating from start to finish. Led by Jarred Moore, who was instrumental in midfield, with 12 handball receives, 10 clearances and 24 disposals.
Jesse Crichton displayed the form that saw him named in the VFL representative squad earlier in the week . Werribee is four wins and two losses for the year, with our next game at Avalon Airport Oval this Saturday May 24 against Richmond

In the Development fixture, despite being held goalless for the first half, Werribee was able to roar back and defeat the Zebras by 10 points in what was a remarkable victory.
The Zebras got off to a great start, utilising the breeze well and kicking accurately, to open up a 12 point lead at quarter-time. Conversely, the Tigers were wasteful in front of goal, managing six behinds for the quarter, despite controlling most of the play.
Werribee’s inaccuracy continued to dog them in the second quarter, managing just 12 behinds for the half.
After not kicking a goal in a half of football, the Tigers snagged two goals within a minute early in the third term to reduce the margin to six points.
Addam Maric slotted the first goal, and an undisciplined act after the goal by a Zebras player resulted in a free-kick, and another shot on goal.
Momentum was suddenly with the Tigers. who were playing with newfound confidence It was all Addam Maric who was having an influential quarter, kicking his second goal minutes after his first. But despite the Tigers dominance, three late goals saw Sandringham take a 16 point lead into three-quarter time.
After copping a heavy hit in the second quarter, Ashlin Brown staged a remarkable recovery to kick three goals in the last quarter, to steer the Tigers to an unthinkable victory. The match was far from over as Werribee held onto a four point lead, but a barrage of inside 50’s (22-5) saw Brayden Norris kick his second goal of the game and seal a memorble victory.
