Axe" the Coach of the Year
At Monday nights J.J.Liston trophy count several other awards were handed out including the announcement of Werribee's Simon Atkins as the Coach of the Year. In his first year as Senior coach Atkins took his side to the top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season. Naturally he was pleased with the award " Look I am very happy bit I still have some work to do this season. I think it is a tribute to the players, I have been blessed to have a very good playing list to choose from and that reflects on the entire club and what we set out to do this year. Everyone has made a contribution, my coaching staff, the fitness staff, trainers. Everybody involved at the footy club has had a hand in our success to date but there are bigger fish to fry and that starts this Saturday when the reserves play followed by our seniors".
President Greg Welsh congratulated Simon on the award " Simon has done an exceptional job and we are thrilled to have him on board for next year. His professionalism is first class and he has the full support of the Board and the players. Hopefully he can Premiership Coach to his other achievements this year".
The popular coach recently re-signed for 2006 and everyone is expecting big things for the club beyond this season.
