The Board of the Werribee Football Club in a unanimous decision has reappointed Simon Atkins as Senior Coach for the 2009 season. The former Bulldogs, Lions and Werribee Tigers star centreman has been coach since 2005.
Speaking at the President’s Lunch John Nicol praised Atkins " The board has been incredibly impressed with the way Simon has moulded this playing group, which is predominantly young players, into a side that is vying for a top four position. Simon is a very good coach and none is better on match days and his preparation is first class, We are pleased to have Simon as our football leader".
Atkins who will enter his fifth year in the job is excited by what lies ahead " This group is a good combination of youth with some very good experienced VFL players. I always felt they just needed time to gel as a team and to execute the game plan and we would see the results we have seen in the last 7 weeks in particular. We have a great opportunity to be part of this finals series and do the Werribee Football Club proud".
In addition to the signing of Atkins the club has also signed the following players for next season Teghan Henderson, Rob Castello, Scott Howard, Ben Sharp, Flinn Chisholm, Michael Rockefeller, James Saker, Rhyce Prismall, Jarrod Mather, Ben Fletcher, Matt Quigley, Brent Morrow.
