League Women –Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

The Tracy Village Jets made it two wins in a row with an easy 83-48 win over the Eagles who have dropped their second successive game. Young Abby Cubillo took scoring honour’s for the Bombers with 24 points followed by a 20 point effort from captain Sam Rioli and 19 from Kylie Duggan. Kymira Woodberry led the Eagles with 21 points and Taylah Hendy chipped in with 10, but the Birds were no match for the Jets on the day.

Uni Rebels v Palmerston

Uni Rebels also won their second game in a row with a comfortable 56-22 win against Palmerston. The return of Tamara Sheppard to the Rebel line-up is a huge bonus to the club as they were in need of a bona fide scorer. Sheppard hit 24 with Jenni Low Choy adding 9. Palmerston is off to another slow start to the season after being humbled by the Jets in the first round… scoring only 15 points for the game. They are definitely in need of a big time consistant scorer if they are to become more of a threat to the rest of the clubs.

Lightning v Ansett

Lightning is the third team to get off to a good start for this season as they too are undefeated with two wins in a row after a 57-46 win over Ansett. Speedy guard Lucy Murray topped the scoring for Lightning with 16 followed by Starkitsha Higgins with 11 and Kelli Sealy with 10. Sam Drescher led the Blues with 19 but no one else hit double figures for Ansett (Grand Finalist in the recently ended Challenge Season) who have now lost their first two games of the competition.

Ladder:                                           Tracy Village Jets, Uni Rebels & Lightning 2-0, Ansett, Eagles & Palmerston 0-2

Next Week Round 3:                     Uni Rebels v Lightning 6:15pm, Tracy Village Jets v Ansett 7:45pm & Palmerston v Eagles 9:15pm

League Men –Razzle v Eagles

The Eagles notched up their third win in a row with an easy 95-56 victory against the Razzle on Saturday. The Birds had dispatched Ansett by a similar score-line on Friday night 86-56. Jesse Williams-Hook led a group of five who had scored in double figures. Williams-Hook had 18, Joseph Johnson 16, Jarrod Sheppard 15 and Chris Stewart & Louis Ilton 12 each. Brendan Dell had the hot hand for Razzle with 22 and he was backed up by former Eagle Henry Bui who hit 14.

Uni Rebels v Palmerston

Palmerston dumped the Uni Rebels with an unexpected shock 81-50 win. Palmerston now has more size to its line-up with the return of Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson and will be looking to improve on its fourth place finish in the just finished Challenge Season. Jesse Bell fired up with 23 points followed by Hohipa-Wilson with 21. The Rebels got 19 points from Matt Fagg and 14 from Matthew Van Pelt but that was pretty much it. The loss was the Rebels first this season.

Ansett v Lightning

Lightning handed last season’s Grand Final runners-up Ansett their third loss of the season. The Lightning jumped out to an 18-12 first quarter lead and never looked back… winning 79-54. The Blues are struggling to find form and will need to get back on track quickly or face a serious uphill battle to get into the final four. Lightning had five players in double figures with new recruit Craig Martin leading the way with 15. Ansetts top scorer Daniel Florance was again on target, leading the Blues with 19. Paul Johnson added 12 in support.

Ladder:                                           Eagles 3-0, Uni Rebels 2-1, Palmerston 2-0, Tracy Village Jets & Lightning 1-1, Ansett & Razzle 0-3

Next Week Round 4:                      Eagles v Palmerston 6:15pm, Razzle v Lightning 7:45pm & Uni Rebels v Tracy Village Jets 9:15pm. Bye-Ansett
