Update on Vandalism at Club
On Wednesday 12th December 2012, the North Mackay Australian Football Club was the victim of a break & enter.
We have often been the victim of break-ins in the past but this event was different.
The perpetrators forced their way into the bar area & the cool room and proceeded to help themselves to the contents of the cool room. In the process, they also went on an orgy of destruction inside the Club.
Virtually every piece of memorabilia, accumulated over the 40+ years since the Club’s formation was damaged or destroyed. Premiership team photos, premiership trophies, photos commemorating player’s milestone games, representative photos etc – damaged or destroyed.
There is also significant structural damage to the premise. Windows, doors, walls, floor coverings, Audio Visual equipment all broken, covered in paint or ripped up.
At this stage our insurance provider believes the repair bill will exceed our cover, even with our members volunteering time to assist with clean up & preparation for repairs.
It is worth noting that most of the work done at our club is done by volunteers, it always has been. While we are a member of Clubs Queensland, we are not a big club. We do not have gaming machines or Keno. Our revenue comes from bar & canteen sales, football membership, sponsors & other fund raising ( yes, chook raffles etc! ).
This event is a significant blow to the Club and we believe the chance of any restitution from the perpetrators is virtually nil. We will be holding a fund raising event early in 2013 and we are asking for your assistance, however small, to help us recover from this senseless act. All contributions will be gratefully accepted and acknowledged.
We will advise shortly of details of the fund raising event on this web site & also on facebook.
Please help if you can, this club has been part of the wider community for more than 40 years and will continue to be so for a long time to come. We can't allow sensless criminal acts such as this to dictate what happens in our community.
