Grand Final week
Football Report
Everyone at the Strathfieldsaye Football Netball Club has had an exciting week. The senior football team is into its second grand final in a row after defeating Sandhurst by 7 goals in the second semi final. Sandhurst is a famous, proud club and we won’t be taking anything for granted. We know they will want to bounce back after the second semi. We’re sure that Darryl and the coaching staff will leave no stone unturned.
Our club has gathered around one of our favourite families at their time of need. It’s well documented that Nathan has a serious illness. It’s often said that it only happens to those who least deserve it. He has a battle on his hands and the entire club and community wish him well. He is an absolute inspiration to us all.
We are proud of our Reserves and U18s for their efforts in the 2014 final series. With a little bit of luck going our way and less injuries and illnesses through the year, we may have them go deeper in to the finals. Well done to everyone.
Congratulations to Stephen Milne on his Ron Best and Derrick Filo medals. The SFNC would also like to congratulate Tim Martin from Sandhurst in his back to back Michelsen Medal win.
Netball Report
With it all down to one team left in the BFNL finals race, the B-grade girls pulled out all measures in Saturday’s preliminary final against Kyneton. Having pulled off a close victory late in the season on Kyneton’s home courts, the team knew what it took to shut down the minor premiers of 2014.
With a very even first half of play (20 goals all) changes were made leading into the third quarter. The vocal and supportive crowd of more than 50 Storm followers made every effort to help the girls along. During the third quarter, Kyneton pulled away to a 4 goal lead despite all this noise and commotion courtside. They maintained this lead into the fourth, and took the win from Storm 41-37, to advance to this week’s Grand Final against Golden Square.
Congratulations to ALL Storm netball teams for their fighting efforts and great play throughout the whole 2014 season under new head coach Mali Roberts. It was fantastic to see so many teams advance to the finals and hope that we can only improve on this in season 2015.
