Memberships are overdue
Memberships which include your VCFL insurance are overdue. For seniors at $120 they would have to be the cheapest in Geelong if not the country. You would think that at this price we would have no problems having them paid on time, but no Rd 1 has come and gone and still many have not paid them or even said one word to us. Thank you to the players who have paid them or at least informed us when you can pay them. Once again we will be forced to waste our time and come and ask for it face to face!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

groomed and much bigger Bannockburn outfit. The first half was a debacle with our much smaller bodies getting knocked from pillar to post and our backmen pulling their hair out watching the ball come down almost effortless at times. The second half was much better as we started winning the ball out the centre and going in harder at the stoppages. Caine Hayes got thrown around like a rag doll but never stopped trying picking up a stack of touches and running the ball out of defence time and time again. Barry Otoole took some great one armed marks fending off his opponent up forward and started making a difference when moved onto the ball in the second half. Calvin Obrien in his first senior game for our club got plenty of the ball and showed he will be a class player for the seniors this year. Chris Laurie showed his senior career is far from over with a standout performance on the half back flank. Ricky Otoole was mopping up well in defence in the first half and kicked 4 majors in the second half when switched to full forward. Ricky Lazzarich, Shane Manning, Mark Stewart, Scott Evans, and Shane Rogan all tried hard for the seniors but with so many exclusions had a tough assignment in their first hitout for the season. Danny Ruck, Jason Huhn, and Matty Wade had a frustrating afternoon but deserve a mention for never giving up under, at times, impossible circumstances. Highlights for the match were the two hangers by Mark Stewart and Scott Evans which might end up on Almost Football legends.
Reserves Vs Bannockburn at home Corio 14.11.95 to 4.5.29
Goalkickers: T Feldman 5, S Gumtree 3, M Baumann 3, J Bartolo 2, F Posilovic,
Best: T Feldman, D Greaves, Toby Lindsay, Clint Eldredge, M Cullen, B Drayton, John Bartolo
Our reigning premiers who unveiled their premiership flag before the game showed no signs they will be slowing down in season 2009. Coached this season again by Darren Bennett and has named captains in Shaun Gundry and Dale Greaves. With plenty of new faces in the team the reserves kicked off the season with an emphatic 10 goal victory sending out an ominous message to the rest of the league that their desire to play hard aggressive team football has not waned after dominating last years grand final. Troy Feldman at full forward led like a youngster taking many vice grip marks and kicked accurately with 6 goals. Ricky McKone at full back played a solid game keeping his opponent very quiet and taking some good marks on the last line of defence. Dale Greaves must be wondering what he has to do to get a senior game after once again dominating the seconds running rings around the opposition picking up the ball at will. Ben Weasel Drayton ran himself into the ground and dished out some bone crunching tackles and also ran hard into defence assisting the backmen. Reserve veterans Clint Eldredge, Matthew Cullen, John Bartolo, Shaun Gundry, and Andrew Williams with over a 1000 games combined experience did as they pleased and used the ball well with their countless possessions and quick hands. Michael Baumann, Darren Bennett, Toby Lindsay, and Robbie Walton also played well but the whole team deserves a mention in a game that proved the reserves are headed towards another exciting season.
U/18 Vs Bannockburn at home Corio 10.9.69 to 2.7.19
Goalkickers: D Scott 4, Chris McKenzie 2, Josh White, Josh Cleary, Aaron Shelley, Ash Cullen
Best: Daniel Lawerson, Daniel Scott, Steven Grooby, Ryan LooneGarcia, Gus Accheni, Ash Cullen, R Marshall
Coached by Nevada Cornwell and Captained by Josh Cleary and Ash Cullen the U/18s got off to the best possible start playing good team football and proving what can happen when all players put in a big preseason. Daniel Lawerson picked up a stack of possessions and proved a headache for the opposition where ever he played. Daniel Scott hit the ball hard and gave our forwards plenty of opportunities with accurate passing up field. Ash Cullen played a blinder marking strongly and clearing the ball out of defence many times. Rhys Marshall tackled hard and led by example being one of the smallest gutsiest players the U\18s has seen. Josh Cleary, Gus Accheni, Steven Grooby, and Ryan LooneGarcia were standout leaders on the field and all played solid games for their side. Once again every player could have been mentioned and if the side can continue with their efforts on and off the field big things will be possible this year.
