Goals: Bill Nicholls 10, Leigh Clifford 5, Chad Rivott 3, Shane Manning 2, Jed Potter 2, Rick Otoole 1, Calvin Obrien 1, John Keys 1
Best: Ricky Otoole, Bill Nicholls, Jed Potter, Leigh Clifford, Barry Otoole, Danny Ruck, Brad Anderson, Shane Manning
The seniors have strung 2 wins together and are almost at full strength and now starting to play some good football at times looking like things are finally starting to fall into place. In a high scoring affair the backmen still had their work cut out for them as the small ground produced many fast surges forward by both teams. Danny Ruck in his 150th game for the club played well and repelled many attacks forward as the opposition had blinkers for their full forward. Brad Anderson once again gave his opponent nothing and was unstoppable on most occasions mopping up for his team time and time again. Toby Lindsay doesnt look out of place in the seniors and has been another option as a link up player running the ball out of defence. The onball trio of Rick Otoole, Barry Otoole, and Jed Potter would have to be the best trio in the league and made light work of their opponents in the middle and provided some clinic style centre breaks making good use of a dominant ruck game from Mark Stewart. Shane Manning on the wing dominated the wing picking up a heap of touches with some quality passes to our forwards. Bill Nicholls 10 goals and Leigh Clifford 5 goals marked everything and both had a day out leading well and kicking straight. All in all it was great to watch the seniors play good team football with a tough 4 weeks coming up.
Reserves Vs Belmont Lions away Corio 18-6-114 to 4-6-30
Goals: Shaun Gundry 6, John Bartolo 2, Michael Baumann 2, Matthew Cullen 2, Ben Drayton 1, Troy Feldman, Dale Greaves 1, Geoff Mitchell 1, Frank Posilovic 1, Chris Short 1Best: Chris Laurie, Luke Fitch, Shaun Gundry, Michael Baumann, Danny Tallentyre, Matthew Cullen
The reserves has a comfortable no fuss victory bouncing back from a disappointing loss last week. Chris Laurie, Dale Greaves, Danny Tallentyre and Michael Baumann all are playing consistent football and last week was no different preventing many attacks forward by the opposition throughout the game. Shaun Gundry slotted through a lazy 6 goals with his unorthodox slap bam kicking style. Luke Fitch rucked well and never stopped running throughout the game and Matthew Cullen just keeps on finding the ball with some tell tale wormburner passes to leading forwards.
U/18 Vs Belmont Lions away Corio 19-6-120 to 3-9-27
Goals: Harley Hunter 5, Daniel Scott 3, Steven Grooby, Ash Cullen 2, Josh Cleary 2, Dylan Taylor 2, Josh White 1, Ryan Loone Garcia 1
Best: Daniel Scott, Brendan Nicolson, Gus Accheni, Harley Hunter, Ash Cullen, Josh Cleary, Steven Grooby, Coby Zorkau, Ryan Loone Garcia, Rhys Marshall
Coach Nevada Cornwell got 4 quarters out of the u\18s and ended up with an impressive 93 point victory. Onballers Daniel Scott, Josh Cleary, and Steven Grooby led the charge in the middle all being slippery for the opposition dodging and baulking all over the field. Daniel Scott had two great runs through the centre with long bombs resulting in goals. Ryan Loone Garcia ran the entire match out picking up possessions all over the ground with ease. Backman Brendan Nicolson, Gus Accheni, and Rhys Marshall played desperate defensive football and gave the side plenty of run off the half back line. Harley Hunter lead brilliantly and mopped up when the ball hit the ground slotting through 5 majors for the match. Ash Cullen and Coby Zorkau were other forwards to stand out taking some good grabs and providing plenty of pressure on their defenders. Overall the whole side played well putting together a solid four quarters of pressure football. The test now is to see if they can do it consistently and continue to maintain pressure when falling behind on the scoreboard which seems to be the time they too easily drop their heads. Nevada and Les would be very happy with last weeks performance and will be doing everything in their power to make sure it continues.
