Bright Future

It was great to see the 4 U-18 players running around in the seniors in last weeks game. Daniel Scott, Ash Culllen, Dylan Taylor, & Shaun Hastings all demonstrated the type of enthusiasm the club loves to see and the 4 players, you could just tell, took great pride in representing our great club wearing the red and white Guernsey. It was a breath of fresh air watching them play their second game of the day and yet still they managed to chase, tackle and put pressure on the opposition from the start of the game to its completion. Scotty never stopped trying and put on a couple of “ Don’t argues “ to much bigger and older opposition players. Dylan took some marks and led time and time again and put on plenty of pressure to their backmen. Ash Cullen took some marks and laid some good tackles throughout the game. Hasto read the ball well putting himself in the right position and got some quick handballs out to team mates who kicked goals. Theres plenty of talent in the U-18’s including Grooby and Cleary who both come out of that agegroup next year and probable will get runs in the seniors over the last 3 rounds.

True Corio Spirit

The club would like to recognise the courage and commitment demonstrated by 2 of our senior footballers who both played with serious injuries in our depleted senior side last week. Matty Wade and Jason Huhn ignored risks to their own safety by putting up their hands to play after medical staff advised them not to. It’s the type of pride and respect shown by true Corio people and our club would like to thankyou for your commitment shown to both the team and the club. Well done boys, your efforts definitely didn’t go unnoticed!

Sponsor Visit

Thanks to Muffin Break from the Corio Village for attending U\10 training last week. The kids loved the cookie and balloon they received from our sponsor and enjoyed the night. Finals just around the corner

With finals starting in 4 weeks the club has a good chance of 7 Football and Netball teams representing the club this year. The club would like to wish these teams all the best over the coming weeks with nearly all these sides wanting wins in 2 of the 3 games remaining to ensure making finals this year……..good luck

Milestones

Well done to the following Netballers who have played their 50 game milestone this year. Nadine Scoble, Fiona Bond, Susan Devlin, Brooke Mallia, Kristie Marsh, Jamie Mathieson, Ashlee Roach and Mandi Szulc (late last year). There will be some big milestones for the netball section over the coming years with Lorissa Stratton leading the way sitting on 133 games.

Volunteers

This week is Richard Krieg Snr who is one of the few volunteers who will come up and ask if there is anything he can do. Almost without fail Richard arrives to every home game to do the interchange steward and is that keen to help out will ask away clubs if there is anything he can help with. Richard for this reason has become a valuable volunteer for our club and we would like to thank him for his ongoing volunteer service. We would also like to thank Richard Jnr who is quite happy to clean the change rooms after home games which is a job not many people put their hand up for. Richard Jnr is coming along nicely with his trainers job and we hope to keep Richard Snr and Jnr at our club for a very long time.

Thank-you

I would like to personally thank my wife Nicole Boyle, the Club and everybody else who helped organize and run the surprise 40th birthday party last week. I have never been so embarrassed but never been more appreciative of such good friends and family who made it a very special and memorable night for me. The next day was just as embarrassing when opening all the cards and presents but thanks once again for all the great gifts. I didn’t have any idea about the night as demonstrated by my face when I walked into the room and it will definitely go down as one of the best kept secrets ever. Thanks heaps!

Goals: Shane Manning 5, Leigh Clifford 2, Andrew Williams 2, Dale Greaves, Jason Huhn, Watson Taylor

Best: Nevada Cornwell, Shane Manning, Dale Greaves, Calvin Obrien, John Bartolo, Andrew Williams, Mark Stewart

With over a dozen players missing from the normal line up, the 6 goal loss could have been much worse. Nevada, Obi, and Gravy were fantastic in defence stopping attacks forward by Belmont time and time again. Manno booted 5 goals and once again was amongst the best. JB and Willy tried hard throughout the match and Big Stewy won most the tapouts and took a heap of marks during the game. A funny sight was late in the game watching Gravy slowly run 150 meters back to fullback after sneaking down the ground and slotting through a major to the amusement of spectators who watched the game.

Reserves V Belmont Lions at home              Corio 11-5-71 to 4-13-37

Goals: Mark Harvey 3, Troy Feldman 3, Jon Boljkovac, Amon Charles, Matthew Cullen, Damien Nunn, Craig Shelley

Best: Chris Laurie, Robbie Walton, Danny Tallentyre, Troy Feldman, Darren Bennett, Matthew Cullen

The reserves had another slow start being kept scoreless in the first quarter. With an unsettled line up they eventually began to dominate the game in the second half coming off comfortable winners in the end. Lozza, Tex, and Benny were fantastic in defence and were responsible for many thrusts forward off the half back line. Robbie in the ruck, Feldy up forward and Mullett on ball were other standouts for the game. The message couldn’t of been any clearer by coach Benny at half time. With 3 weeks to go until finals and with over 30 players qualified, everyone needs to watch their game or they might find it tough to make the team in the first game of the finals.
