WELCOME TO THE RYE JFC
GETTING INVOLVED WITH YOUR CHILD'S FOOTBALL
TEAMS:-Players are entered into teams that are applicable to their age in each year. Ranging from U9’s through to U17’s. Both Boys & Girls competitions.
Training and Team Discipline:- The Rye Junior Football Club places important emphasis on its players training regularly. There is an expectation for all players to attend each training session unless a previous arrangement has been made with the coach. In the event a player cannot make training due to sickness or other unforseen circumstances, it is crucial for the coach or team manager to be contacted. Contacting the coach to advise that a player cannot attend training is a matter of courtesy and respect to not only your coach, but for your team. If the coach is not contacted about your non-attendance at training, it may affect your game time on game day.
Player Game Time:- Our coaches will do their best to make sure that player game time is as even as possible throughout the game. In the event there are large team numbers, the coach will rotate players accordingly. Please understand that coaches & team managers spend time on player rotations and do their best to make things fair. In the event you have any concerns please approach the coach, team manager or a committee member in an appropriate manner after the game.
Team Officials:-For each team to run, a number of officials are required. These include Coach, Team Manager, Runner and Trainer. These roles need to be registered with the league, with both Coach & Trainer completing appropriate training. Without these the team cannot participate in the competition.
Game Day Team Duties:- In addition to the team officials there are a number of other jobs that must be performed on game day at HOME GAMES. The team who plays the first match on the ground for the day will need to put up the goal pads, put out the scoreboard numbers, & the stretcher and setup the siren. The team playing the final game on the ground will pack up and return all of these items to the storeroom and also do a thorough clean up of change rooms.
Each team must also provide the following:
- Boundary Umpire - U11 – U17 Games only. Boundary umpires shall follow play and call out any ‘out of bound’ ball. Boundary umpires are to be at least the same age as the team playing. Boundary umpires must not coach the players whilst doing the boundary. The Boundary Umpire also returns the ball to the field umpire after a goal is scored. Liaise with Team Manager, on this day who will provide you with any necessary uniform/equipment.
- Goal Umpire - The goal umpire shall record points and goals. Scores must be compared with the Time Keeper and Ground Umpire at the half time break and the conclusion of the Game. The Goal Umpires scores will determine the winner. Liaise with Team Manager, on this day, to complete paperwork and who will provide you with any necessary paperwork/uniform/equipment. In U10’s the score is signaled but score is not recorded.
- Water Person - The water person is allowed to run water out to the players and then go directly back to the designated water person area. He / She is not allowed to stay on field. Liaise with Team Manager on this day who will provide you with any necessary paperwork / Uniform / equipment.
- Interchange Steward - Shall be seated on the boundary line within the white lines of the interchange area. Must have a watch. Steward shall note on the Interchange Card (provided) the time of the start and finish of each quarter, all interchanging player numbers and times and any players ordered off by the field umpire. The Interchange Liaise with Team Manager, on this day, to complete paperwork and who will provide you with any necessary paper work uniform/equipment.
- Scoreboard Attendant - (Home Games only) post score onto score board and check that the scores are correct with the Goal Umpires at each quarter break. When there is a 70 point different between scores, scoring is to cease. Liaise with Team Manager, on this day, to complete paperwork and who will provide you with any necessary paperwork/ uniform/equipment.
- Time Keeper -The time keeper shall keep time and record scores for each quarter and sound the siren for the commencement and conclusion of each quarter. Scores must be compared with the Goal Umpire at the half time break and the conclusion of the game. The Goal Umpires scores will determine the winner. Liaise with Team Manager, on this day, to complete paperwork and who will provide you with any necessary paperwork/uniform/equipment.
- Canteen - It is an expectation of all parents that are not rostered on to any game day duties that they offer their assistance in the canteen, for a minimum of half an hour. Mums & Dads are both welcome. First game team needs to help out and set up half an hour prior to starting game time, and last team for day help pack up. A minimum of two volunteers are needed at all times. The Team Manager usually organises a roster, but it is easy for parents to offer their assistance, rather than the Team Manager having to chase helpers all the time as they are already busy organising other roles so that the children team can take the field. The Canteen is our biggest revenue raiser, providing much needed funds to purchase new equipment, jumpers, coaches and trainers kits and training.
Teams will not be able to take the field if game day roles are not filled appropriately.
Parent / Carer Involvement is needed for your child’s team and our club to be successful. The kids really enjoy it when you are involved, we all need to do our bit.
Parents and Players Codes of Conduct and Umpire Respect:- By registering with the club parents and players are also agreeing to Club & League Code of Conduct. These can be found on our website. Our coaches are also required to complete a code of conduct supplied by the League. Please read the codes of conduct and take them seriously as breaches can range from warnings to match suspensions or even be ineligible to continue to play for the club or for parents to attend your child’s game. We must remember that Umpires are not to be abused or ridiculed, as without umpires, games cannot be played.
Social Events:- During the season the club will hold various team or whole club events which we encourage all players and families to attend. They are great nights, and an opportunity to get to know other families within the club.
No Pay No Play Policy:- A “No Pay No Play” policy has been introduced. This means that all player registration fees must be paid in full prior to the player being permitted to play. Players are not insured until they have paid all relevant fees. If you are facing financial hardships please talk to a committee member.
Gifts:- At the end of the season most teams collect money to buy gifts for the main helpers on the team such as the Coach, Team Manager and sometime the runner, trainer and water boy. It is recommended that one person collects the money up to $10 per child (preferably the team manager). Please do not buy large gifts for Coaches and other helpers as this process can get out of hand. Coaches and helpers have volunteered their time to help your children and do not expect to receive a large gift in return.
Committee:- The Committee member’s details are all available on the club website and you are welcome to call them with your ideas, concerns or just to provide feedback or ask questions at any time. You will also find many of them at the club on game day. Our committee members are elected to the committee positions at the AGM each year and we always welcome fresh members.
Each week there are many smaller jobs that need to be done such as cutting up oranges of the quarter breaks, assisting in setting up and packing up of the oval at home games. There are many ways you can get involved at the club. If you are not sure how, or have a skill that you can offer please speak to either your Coach & Team Manager or get in touch with the President.
The Rye JFC is a great family club, we look forward to your involvement and hope you have a great season.
