This weeks report brought to you by Platinum Sponsor Leighton Engineering were quality service is assured.
Last Saturday the Leongatha folk were kind enough to bring some typical South Gippsland weather with them which would have pleased our local farmers. The U13 netball girls took to the court in steady rain and could have been forgiven if off their game a little. However Heidi Bedgood and Jami Cashman set the standard early and a good win was had. The U15 girls had a real test with the visitors pushing all the way. Montana Holmes and Paige Wilson judged best in a hard fought victory. Another see-sawing battle in the U17 with Lauren Ryder and Tori Dessent keeping us in it, but a 6 goal loss was the result. Led by Tegan Grant & Kellie Murray the C grade ladies were valiant in their efforts but a narrow loss in the end. B grade kept in touch all the way but couldn’t bridge the gap despite the best efforts of Beth Goodsell & Kasey McKay. A grade ran into a red hot Parrott’s outfit and struggled to match it with them. Leah Schuback & Hollie Fuhrman in the best.
Will Hams thrived in the wet as the U16 lads were all over the opponents in the first half. However it was all Leongatha in the second half with our lads just hanging on. Benson, Martyn & Flint good all day. A four quarter effort will be required this week boys.
A bigger, stronger Parrott’s U18 outfit reveled in the greasy conditions and out muscled our lads. While never giving up its hard to play catch up footy in the wet and the boys fell well short. Brad Scott, Dylan Hall & Andrew Ogilvie among the best.
The MaGoos led by James Cook were too good for our undermanned visitors and recorded a solid victory. Tim Light played a solid first game while Liam Hogan is all class and they were well supported by Brad McKay & Bret Hudson. This week they face a much stiffer test and will need to play smart team footy if they are to get the confectionary.
‘Stasa’ had a blinding start to the senior game bagging 3 goals in as many minutes as the boys moved the ball in quality fashion despite the muddy conditions. Kane Fraser threw himself around with gay abandon and was voted best on ground. Flint, Sweeney & McAdam all solid contributors as we overran our young & inexperienced opposition. It was worth the entry cost just to watch the first quarter by Phil Harris, it was something special, he loves the big occasion so watch for him this week. Traralgon have taken all before them this season and this week will be a real acid test for our new look outfit. The Peter Hug Cup is up for grabs and while coach Nick Anderson has been pleased with the team’s progress so far, there will be no excuses as we look to stamp ourselves as contenders in 2010.
On the social scene last week’s Pot & Parma meal and player’s auction were a resounding success. Bidding for players was lively and thanks to Greg Birss for his auctioneering efforts. Next week we are home to Maffra on Sunday in what should be a classic battle of the birds.
Good luck to all Magpie teams this week.
