COREEN-Daysdale-Hopefield-Buraja United farewelled the Coreen and District league with a record 113-point thumping of the Billabong Crows in Saturday's grand final at Rennie.
The Saints' 24.19 (163) to 8.2 (50) victory was the biggest grand final margin in the 98-year history of the competition, topping Rennie's 109-point triumph against Coreen in 1983.
CDHBU took just 15 minutes to dismantle the opposition and cruise to back-to-back flags in a performance that even left coach Jarrod Hanrahan stunned.
"It doesn't get much better than that," Hanrahan said.
"All year we have struggled in first quarters, but today was unbelievable and the boys kept going and didn't ease up.
"We are the first side to win the flag after winning the second semi in the last four years and it's just a relief.
"I thought we needed to show what a good side we are after being around the mark for a few years.
"The club has had a great group of 40 players this year and I can't sing their praises enough."
Tireless onballer Mark House was the architect of the victory with a dream first quarter.
House played a direct hand in the opening three goals when the match was up for grabs, with his long kicking into attack giving full-forward Doug Lavis an armchair ride.
Lavis kicked four goals for the term opposed to veteran Crow Justin Hosie; as House, Hanrahan, Damien Mollison and Shayne Mathews dictated the midfield.
The Saints' dominance can be gauged by the fact the Crows entered their 50m arc only four times for the term; and when they did Brad Talbot, Wes Amor and Shane Norman cleared with relative ease.
CDHBU kicked 7.10 to 0.1 and, despite having Charlie Cay and Wayne Patten off the ground early in the second term through injury, were never challenged from that point.
Mathews, the brother of Sydney Swans defender Ben, was the surprise packet on a wing with his relentless running and defensive skills having a major impact on the result.
Dashing Leigh Bedford and centre half-forward Paul Lavis were other winners, proving the ideal foil for Doug Lavis who chimed in with an eight-goal bag.
The Crows swung the changes in a bid to add some respectability, but only midfielder Ben Kerr could come away from the match with his head held high.
He picked up 30 possessions despite CDHBU having 80 per cent of the play and more often than not his disposal found teammates in a better position.
Hanrahan believes the team had peaked at the right stage of the season after being ravaged by injuries midway through the season.
"It has been a battle at times, but full credit to the boys for hanging in there," he said.
"I thought depth was always going to be our strength today as you are pretty confident when Charlie Cay, Glenn Edwards and Jayme Hicks start on the bench.
"Personally, it's great to win the last Coreen league grand final because my grandfather won best and fairests and premierships in the league, and so did my father.
"It's been a terrific competition."
Crows coach Danny Kirchen conceded his charges were outplayed from the first bounce.
"They were too good," Kirchen said.
"We couldn't get our game going at all and they deserved it."
Wahgunyah proved too strong for the Billabong Crows in the reserves, the Tigers were big winners against Jerilderie in the under-16s and CDHBU brought down the Crows in the under-13s.
