First Grade V Southern Power @ Waratah Oval
It was the match of the round with 2019 minor premiers taking on the eventual premiers in wet and slippery conditions at Sutherland in the 5.20 PM match. Multiple changes were required from the previous weeks team with teens Zac Redding and Jeremy Skinner make their first grade debuts for the Rams. Penrith dominated for the first 8 minutes of the match but were unable to convert with Power's rare foray into Rams territory saw them take and early 2 goal lead. Penrith responded late in the first term and held a single point lead at the break. A tough second quarter saw the Rams lead by just 7 until just before the siren sounded but was extended on the bell as Nathan Rowley slotted a long set shot to see the visitors go to the sheds with a 13 point lead. Power fought back in the third, winning the quarter with two goals to one to drag back their deficit to eight. The final quarter saw the passion and resilience of the Rams who weathered the storm to keep their unbeaten record intact with an 11 point victory. Luke Cooke, Brayden Wilson and Nathan Rowley were all super impressive with Tom McNamara chiming in with a double. Full scores and teams at:
Ramettes V East Coast Eagles @ Kanebridge Oval
The final game of the round was the 6:30 PM Ramettes match who were just 80 Kms away from their male counterpart in a scheduling masterpiece. Playing with two players short of East Coast, an early goal saw the girls hold on to a slender point lead in the first term. The Eagles looked in trouble in the second quarter with the Ramettes piling on another three majors to hold what was to be a match winning lead. Conditions were deteriorating in the second half but it was the Penrith visitors closing off what was a miserable day for the Eagles with a well deserved three point victory. 2019 B & F winner, Paige Pirotta led the way with an inspiring game, picking up an important goal. Kate Walker booted two and worked tirelessly all night, Ainslie Jones and Margot Vella impressed in the middle whilst AFL debutante Eloise Schodel kicked of her career with a goal.
