ROUND 4 WRAP – V MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY WARRIORS
There was some doubt about the second home game of the season proceeding after heavy rain the previous 24 hours, but the day proceeded as planned with the sun coming out early in the day
All matches were against Macquarie University Warriors with both teams sitting next to each other in what was looking to be an exciting day of footy.
RAMETTES-DIVISION ONE- V MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY WARRIORS
The Ramettes opened up the day’s proceedings at Greygums Oval in their clash against Macquarie University. Jamie Anyon-Smith was to lead the team out onto the field to celebrate her 50th game. The Ramettes were without last week’s Best on Ground, Emma Kenny who watched on with an injury forcing her out of the game, along with young gun Margot Vella, who was scoring a try in Women’s NRL for the Canterbury Bulldogs.
With conditions all pointing to a low scoring affair, the Ramettes came out pumping, scoring a season best 4.4 in the opening term as the dominated the play, leaving their opponents scoreless. Mac Uni were to fight back in the second term with a solitary goal, winning the quarter by a point with the home side only able to kick five behinds.
The second half was all the Ramettes, adding another six majors with the Warriors only raising the single flag once and running away to a 65 point victory and progressing to a 2-2 season and progressing to equal 4th(6th on percentages) with five games remaining in the shortened season
Co-Captain Ainslie Jones (1 goal) was adjudged best in a magnificent display of wet weather footy, closely followed by Paige Pirotta (1 goal) and Justine Vella. Kate Walker took the goal honours with 4.2 in another fine “lead from the front” contribution. Erin Gray booted her inaugural AFL goal and Claire Manuel in her first match back since 2015.
Next week the Ramettes travel to Sydney Uni to take on the Students with another win almost ensuring a spot in the top four.

RESERVE GRADE v MAC UNI WARRIORS
After last week’s big victory over Randwick at Greygums, the twos were certainly up for a battle with the Warriors who had beaten the Rams both times they met in 2019. Each team had met defeat only once this year, both to Southern Power.
With second use of the ground, it was the Rams looking sharp in the first half and dominating play. Both quarters saw the Rams kick 3.1 to lead the Warriors by a margin of 18 points at the long break and looking impressive to record a big win.
It was however a very different scenario in the second half with Mac Uni sprouting wings and the Rams appearing to be out on their legs. The visitors with all the play in the third quarter quickly racked up 15 points and the Rams lucky to stay in the race, with a single goal against the run of play and were hanging on with a 10 point buffer coming into the last stanza of play. Again, the Uni side had the run of play with 20 to go and midway through the quarter hit the front with momentum suggesting it was to be yet another loss for the team. Exhaustion, however, was put aside as the Rams dug deep, kicking the last two goals of the match in the final 8 minutes to record a stirring, gutsy 10-point victory.
50 Gamer, Nic Pianta (1 goal), rose his milestone day with big game. Along with Jack Noble and veteran premiership players Bryce Roney and Chris Manuel, who both returned to playing this season after last pulling on the boots in 2013. Jeremy Skinner and Tayt Corless both booted doubles.
Next week the team travels to Warwick Farm to take on the winless South West Sydney.

FIRST GRADE V MAC UNI WARRIORS
It was the match of the round with competition leaders Penrith Rams playing the second placed Warriors. Both Teams have proven the fiercest of rivals since the commencement of the Platinum Division in reaching Grand Finals and playing each other in prelim finals since 2018.
In cold, overcast and wet conditions, Penrith commenced well, scoring the first major for the first time this season. The Warriors soon hit back with a quick treble to lead the match by 10 at the conclusion of the first quarter. The Rams were unable to find their rhythm in the second term, kicking just a single goal, going to the sheds with a 19-point deficit.
Looking much sharper in the third, it became a tight tussle, but the visitors were able to edge ahead again with a 20 point buffer, before finishing off the game in a slugging final term to record a 25 point victory to propel them to the top of the ladder, with the Rams dropping to third spot on percentages.
Co-Captain Nathan Wright (1 goal) was solid throughout for Penrith along with his other captain, Matthew Laffan. As always, Brayden Wilson ran all day. Zac Lange, and the Stevens duo, Mitch and Jayden provided the other goals. Late withdrawals from the side saw both Jeremey Skinner and Dylan Nelson backing up from the previous reserves match and both acquitted themselves well.
The team should be able to bounce back next Saturday when they take on South West Sydney at Rosedale Park, Warwick Farm at 3:00 PM
Again, a big thanks to all players, sponsors, coaches, support staff, families, friends and supporters who braved the tough conditions on the day. A special thanks to our field club umpires on the day, Mark Steunenberg and Zac Redding along with our goal umpires who assisted during the day, Nathan Walker, David Nolan, John Rix, Tony Pianta and Jack McNamara
