On a 28 degree afternoon the sun tanned loyal throng ventured to Brindisi Street in Mentone for the final praccy match. The Magoos had a terrific last half and really put the hosts under pressure in the final term. Resssies Coach Brocky was proud of their efforts and there is plenty of good things to look forward to
After seeing the progress of Carlton and Brisbane it is hard to gauge anything from pre-season games. In the main game A Grade St Bedes were tall and fast and while they dominated the early stages the Bloods fought back through the run of Nick Gooda and the presence of mind of Brendan Gillen to register our first goals. The hard, dry ground and the swift ball use by both sides saw the footy ping-pong back and forth. The Bloods started the second with 2 goals to Micky Meahan and one came via a potential for mark of the day and three deep. Pity the Oracle was wrestling with a jelly python as a great moment was missed even though there was a camera at hand. In defence Weeksey was playing a blinder and great voice and leadership was being shown by young guns, Pinot and Alfie. In the ruck the Big Fish was getting great support from a young gun named Mark Seccull - has potential that boy!
Jonno Roberts showed plenty up forward and new recruit Nicco was showing great poise and patience down back. Nashy was making himself known to the oppo and Timmy Lockwood was getting his hands on ball after a long spell away from the leather.
St Bedes started the third term in blistering fashion and threatended the blow away the Bloods. To our credit we fought back hard and Poppa and Mickey kicked several in the last quarter to see us finally go down by a handful of goals.
St Bedes will be a top team in A Grade so there was plenty we can hang our hats on. Next week we venture out to Werribee for Round 1. We have more players to come back into the firsts and with only 7 sleeps to go the Oracle just can't wait - just hope my car can drive to Werribee! Hyxy? Southa?
