This Saturday at Macedon, reserves captain and star forward Chris Payne gathered the ball at the top of the goal square, turned around, jogged a few paces and kicked it between the big sticks. Nothing special.. right? What I didn't mention was that there was a Macedon player between him and the goals. I'm not sure if Payney was too lazy to sell some candy, too arrogant to step around him or if he just didn't see this Macedon player's small frame in front of him, but Payne just ran straight through him like he was a cardboard cutout without breaking a stride or lifting an arm to fend him off. Chisel!
There are a few cool cucumbers at the Diggers Rest Football Club and Rhys Hannan appears to be one of them. This was evident before the game on Saturday when he was getting a rub from one of the trainers while his team was out warming up on the grass. Hannan finished getting his rub and walked out of the rooms to join his team. The sun glistening on his freshly oiled legs, dreadlocks swaying in the gentle breeze, he worked up a bit of swagger on his way over. That's where it all came undone. Many people would say jumping over a chain fence 12 inches off the ground would be an easy task, but not Rhys. As he leaped over his right foot got caught on the chain and half a second later... SMACK! Chin covered in gravel. Another week, another chisel
