Coaches Review
First of all l would like to congratulate every child who played football for the Lancefield Junior Football Club for a great season, and also to all the coaches for the time and effort they put into the children this year. Being my first year as a junior coach following on from last year as a senior coach was extremely enjoyable. Friday night training ses-sions and Sunday morning game days came around very quickly from week to week and I felt the kids were really en-joying and improving their football during those weeks. The kids tried to learn some basic game structures and contin-ued to develop their ball skills and it was always great to see their smiling faces and share their enthusiasm.
I remember one particular occasion when I was addressing the boys and explaining to them about the importance of team play- how we should back each other up and support our team mates. I also added that we all make mistakes from time to time but not on purpose and that we should en-courage each other to try again and not get upset or lose confidence. I added that I’ve been playing football for thirty years and I still make mistakes while playing footy. The re-sponse from the children was how long is thirty years? Does that mean you’re fifty? How old is fifty? - my grandad is fifty and so on. We got a little side tracked that night but it was quite funny and is a fond memory of coaching this year’s Under 9’s.
This year we had a wide range of playing abilities amongst the kids from beginners to those that were confident from having played last year. Some of the first year players adapted quickly and played some great games and others took their time, but above all else they all tried hard through-out the whole season. Overall the boys played extremely well together and were very competitive all year. I would like to thank the kids personally for their efforts and for making the season so enjoyable.
I would particularly like to thank Loretta Credland for being my team manager and getting everyone organised, Brad Ryan as my assistant coach, Shelly Thrum the team trainer, Ken Weber field umpire and also all the parents who chipped in throughout the year with game day chores. In finishing I hope the children took away with them self confi-dence, basic kicking and handballing skills both left and right sided (which should be practised regularly) and en-joyed the season playing a team sport.
Above all else I hope they had fun this year playing football for the Under 9 Lancefield Tigers. Thanks very much to everyone involved in the Lancefield Junior Football Club.
GO TIGERS!!
