The Townsville Football League was founded
in 1954 with three teams, The RAAF, Hermit Park and South Townsville.
In 1961 Currajong was founded.
Jim Muldoon at South Townsville and Eric Johns
from 1968 at Currajong were the prominent officials of those clubs.
In 1989 The Centennial Oval played its last
games thus effectively leaving Currajong with out a home ground.
South Townsville after 1982 was now known as Townsville Swans and was struggling.
In 1989 the Hawks formed and with the
exodus of players from all clubs to the Hawks this weakened both Currajong and
Townsville Swans.
In 1990 Townsville Swans and Currajong
merged to become the Curra Swans.
This bought together three great
administrators in Jim Muldoon, Eric Johns and Graham Nicol all life members,
all hard workers, all football people.
Along with many others including some great
coaches Curra Swans peaked in 1997, 98 and 99 winning three consecutive A Grade
Premierships and a Seconds Premiership.
