HERMIT PARK 14 16 100
CURRA SWANS 9 14 68
The Curra Swans
were given a lesson on how to start a football game on Saturday by the Hermit
Park Tigers.
The Tigers hammered
the Swans in the opening term outscoring the Swans by 7 goals.
It was not the
start the Swans faithful were anticipating as expectations were high on
Thursday night when the selected A grade side was read out by Coach, Darren
Gwynne.
There has been a
buzz around Muldoon Oval this year and everyone was looking forward to the
weekend. Saturday was a hot humid day
and the Tigers as they always do came out running hard and in double quick time
there was an air of inevitability about the game.
The Swans were
terrible in their first quarter of premiership football for 2010. After winning
the Lightning Cup much more was expected.
The Swans were
rocked by a couple of injuries early on to Brod Hill and Liam Gordon. Both
players eventually got back on the paddock.
Without Blair Hill
in the backline the score would have been a lot worse at quarter time.
Swans captain Brent
Doyle kicked his sides first goal late in the quarter and the Swans went to the
first break shell shocked trailing 8-4
to 1-2
The Swans outscored
the Tigers by 2 goals for the remaining 3 quarters of the game but the damage
was done in the first.
The Tigers came
switch on and ready to win the hard ball and the Swans did not.
Coach Darren Gwynne
was disappointed after the match and questioned his side’s commitment to win
the hard ball in the first quarter. The effort was unacceptable as far as the
new Swans Coach is concerned but as Gwynne said the Swans get the chance to
redeem themselves in 7 days.
