Nothing makes the Bear growl more than his beloved Swans being falsly accused particularly when it occurs in the media.
The Bear was sitting quietly (for a change) eating his porridge along with Mummy Bear when along comes these articles on abuse of young umpires in Monday's paper.
Followed by a report from our new top man Peter Young the next day which if you are not in the know reads like our Under 17-s are the instigators of it all. Now the Bear has a bit of inside information that the abuse of these kids (which is not to be tolerated by anybody) came last weekend from an opposition side. Now seeing as we only seem to ever play one opposition side you shouldn't have to be a rocket scientist to work out which side. The fact that these youngsters play for that side should tell anybody where the main abuse was coming from.
The previous incident which cost our points was where a parent who has not an under 17 playing in our team anyway, was directing to say the least some colourful remarks at a senior goal umpire who wasn't backward in throwing a few comments back his way as well.
Now AFL Qld stated when contacted by a concerned supporter that the parent concerned should have been warned and then reported if he continued his tirade but once again the League took the matter into their own hands and took the points for the following game off the Curra Under 17-s who at the time were blisfully playing footy and unaware of this parent's actions. So lets take the easy way out once again and take it out on the kids.
What worries the Bear more than anything is that apart from the fact that no kid involved in our game be them players or officials should be subject to abuse of any sort is that he believes Curra is starting to be seen as a soft target by all concerned. Maybe we sometimes shoot our selves in the foot but when an injustice is seen to be done to our players or club we should all stand up and let all concerned know that we will tolerate it no more.
We have a small committee and we all complain at times about matters that are percieved to be not seen to be done in a manner that we would wish, but we probably all have been guilty in sitting back and let the work be done by a few. By all means we are entitled to complain but perhaps some of us could help take the work load off our committee just a little.
Maybe then our committeee will have more time to address the important matters.
There are subcommittees screaming out for help. How about it?
