What could get the Bear excited about footy in the middle of summer?
Not much normally but this is turning out to be any thing but a normal summer for his much loved but much maligned Swans.(Well in 2010 any way)
Firstly the building of the clubrooms; The Bear was down perusing a high school game when he noticed brickwork, reinforcing rods and some plumbing started. So we are finally seeing some results of the early work put in by the likes of Trevor "Carlton" Rial who put in all the ground work to gain a grant and believe the Bear when he says this is a massive job. Trev along with Pete Busch were in on the project early then Scot came on board as project manager and has put in a massive amount of time and work in both the new change rooms come toilets and the building as it has progressed.
Then recently the Bear along with other dignitaries of the club met with the new senior coach one Peter Young and if you couldn't be impressed with what he has to say you're in the wrong game.
The Bear got that excited at one stage before he remembered his age he thought about coming to training as well.
Youngy is like a breath of fresh air and if we all get behind him in 2011the Bear looks forward to better times.
He has promise no quick fixes but with hard work and a focus on skills and youth the Bear feels the success will come.
Not to say the old heads are not required their experience can not be sold short they are an important part of our resurgence in 2011.
Already some good blokes have come on board to coach the under 18-s and with Neilo and Poomba at the helm we expect a good year at this age level.
We already have a new exec committee with the Silver Fox at the helm and a new look junior committee with Mr Dean Buckman running that so all in all for this time of the year we seem to be in a good position. The Bear looks forward to the 19th of this month when we have a meet the coach bbq also as a matter of interest we have a 14-s, 16-s and 18-s carnival on the 27th at Murray.
On the 24th of Nov at TIS is a school boys comp between Townsville and Thuringowa which the Bear will climb out of the cave and go and have a look at incidentally the the 24th is the first scheduled training run for the seniors.
So the Bear looks to another season with supreme optimism but don't I every year, just this year coming the Bear dares to dream things will be different
