The Curra Swans took the 4 hour drive north to Cairns on Saturday and returned home with a gutsy victory in their bags.
In a match played in atrocious conditions the Swans showed some real fight to outgun their northern hosts.
In a match played over 6 quarters it was the South Cairns Cutters who had the better of the first “game” featuring some U18 players and and the seconds. Reserve grade coach, John Belbin was pleased with the hit out despite the Cutters having outscored his troops. Belbin was impressed with a few of the younger players and had nothing but praise for 2010 captain Trevor “The Rock Rial” at full back.
In the second match played over the remaining 3 quarters the Swans took to Watsons Lake better than the Cutters.
An even first term was soon turned into 1 way traffic in the second by the youthful Swans who simply out pressured their opponents causing many turnovers and the resulting inside 50s realised about 5 goals.
The Cutters became frustrated by the pressure from the Swans and some ill discipline crept into their game. The young Swans kept their cool and were duly rewarded and continued on to score a stirring victory.
Swans coach, Peter Young was impressed with the way his players went about the game and said the side would take a lot out of the match.
