SWANS 13 09 87
HAWKS 08 04 52
The Curra Swans got off to a flying start with a 5 goal to 1 first quarter on their way to their first ever Seniors win at Tony Ireland Stadium.
The youthful Swans outfit were simply too quick for the Hawks and answered every challenge thrown at them by their opponents.
The Swans dominated the opening term with the Hawks kicking their only major for the quarter deep in time on.
The second term saw the Hawks claw back at the lead outscoring the Swans by a goal but the Swans still held a 3 goal advantage at the long break.
The Swans have been in the contest at half time in many games in recent years only to fall away in the second half. Last Saturday against the Bulldogs a classic example. Nothing in the match at half time but the Bulldogs kicked away to a 10 goal win.
Any fears of a second half lapse were quickly dispelled by the determined young Swans who stuck to their game plan with determination. The Swans added 4 more goals to lead by 42 points late in the third before the Hawks again scored in the time on period, this time with 2 goals in quick succession and causing some anxious moments for the Swans coaching staff.
The Swans started the final stretch with a 31 point lead and it was obvious early that they were not about to let this one go. In the end the final quarter was an even affair with the Swans increasing the margin to 35 points at the final siren.
After the match is was mentioned that the win was the Clubs first ever win for the Seniors at the stadium. It was also the first win since 2009 and the Swans club song reverberated from the bowels of the stadium.
