It doesn’t seem that long ago when we wondered when we would see some footy. Three weeks in and its full steam ahead.
Saturday marks an historic day in the life of the Curra Swans Football Club. After many many hours of planning, bidding and finally construction, our new clubhouse should be operational on Saturday. There is not enough room here to mention all the people who have sacrificed so much to turn a dream into reality but it wouldn’t be right not to take time out to thank one individual in particular. Club life member, past senior and reserve grade coach, current junior coach and former President, Scot Beynon. Scot has put so much into this building and has been the driving force behind the whole project that he deserves a medal. Scot on behalf of the whole club thank you and congratulations on a magnificent job.
Saturday night sees the first function in the new clubhouse and what a way to kick it off. The social committee has worked tirelessly to make our Grand Ball a night to remember. Well done to Tails and the crew on your efforts.
On the field numbers have increased across all teams and it’s great to see so many new faces out at Muldoon Oval. A big thank you to all the juniors coaches and parents for getting our up and comings out on the ground. A lot of work but worth it to see the young swans running around getting a kick of the sherrin.
The Under 18 competition has been a huge success and our boys are showing they will be a force in this comp. Well done to coach Nealo for his efforts with this demanding role. Welcome back to the Club also to last years seniors coach, Darryn Gwynne. Darryn has agreed to help Nealo with the Under 18s.
Our Reserves got on the winners list after a solid win against the Hawks last week and Johnny Belbin is looking forward to the next few weeks as more players become available. John is in the enviable position of telling players they won’t be playing this week due to the great numbers on the training track. With new players arriving each week that task will get harder and one thing is for sure Johnny won’t muck about so I encourage all players to get to training.
Youngie has the seniors up and about and although they lost to the Tigers last Saturday the boys showed in their breakthrough win over the Hawks that they will be competitive in 2011. In Youngies own words, that is where we need to focus in the seniors. Be super competitive and the results will come.
