Braun Kicks Swans To 37 Point Win
Swans midfielder Maslin Braun showed his versatility by kicking 5 majors when moved up forward to inspire the Swans to a comfortable 37 point win over the university Hawks on Saturday.
Braun is one of the new faces at the Swans this year and like Tasmanian recruit Jae Ruzzier, Braun is starting to find his feet in Townsville. He came with big expectations and displayed on Saturday that he can live up to them.
Moved to full forward to provide a target Braun proved too much to handle for the Hawks defence. He was pivotal in the Swans second quarter 6 goal blitz of the Hawks.
The second quarter from the Swans was faultless as they went about dissecting the Hawks all over the park to set up a commanding 27 point half time lead. Most at the ground thought the Swans fitness and pace would dominate the second half and possibly lead to a big win but to the Hawks credit they fought back and held the Swans for the remainder of the contest.
The Swans whilst happy with the win were disappointed in yet again not putting in for a full four quarters. Swans coach Peter Young challenged his young side after the game to not take that win as acceptable. The Swans should have won by a lot more and Young had no qualms letting the players know.
The Swans also unveiled another young gun with 16 year old Dominic Stout-Milkens making his senior debut in the match. Dominic’s welcome to senior footy had him back on the bench with wobbly knees in the first 5 minutes but to his credit Stout-Milkens overcame the setback and put in a solid first up performance to be among the Swans best on the day.
Focus now turns to the next match against new ladder leaders Hermit Park, a side the Swans have yet to conquer this season.
