GET to the grand final and I'll be there. That is the impassioned message from Curra captain Steven Taylor as he faces a lengthy recovery from a shoulder injury.
Already the 31-year-old utility has written off the remainder of the RMS AFL Townsville regular season, but is defiantly optimistic about making a return to lead the Swans to the flag in the second weekend of September.
This week the skipper fronted his teammates with the news of his injury, having ignored the severity of it when he aggravated an old shoulder problem last month.
He has come to terms with having to run water against Hermit Park against Neil French Oval tomorrow, but is determined to push his teammates all the way to the decider because he wants a send-off to savour.
"I'm pretty pissed off because this could be my last hurrah," Taylor said.
"Providing the players stay committed like they should, and with the coaching staff we have, this could be our year most certainly.
"Right now it's a slim chance that I'll make it back, but I want to be there for that last game."
While he can't exercise the sort of influence that has made him a club favourite in recent years, he is adamant the youth that has been promoted by the tri-colours this season has what it takes to take the reins.
Adam Macdonald, David Faulds, and Max Tink make up the emerging talent with Maslan Braun growing in stature every game and Blair Hill now taking over as captain in leading the charge.
"There are guys who I know can step up to the mark," Taylor said.
