The Bear ambled down to fun day to see what it was all about and you guessed it it was about fun for all.
The junior teams inc netball were competiting for the Family Fun Day Trophy and worked out on a points scoring system all went through long kicking, handball , kicking for goals and barrel kicking.
We had not held this event since 2006 and it was great to see it back on the footy calender.
The Trophy was won eventually by the under 10-s all credit to the ankle biters.
Then just before a bbq lunch John "Sumo" Belbin took to the field and was remorselessly hunted down and smashed by the horde of running kids chasing after the lollies.
Every kiddie was rewarded for their tenacity with lollies, every mum hated us for they knew the kids were now on a sugar fix and Sumo John lost 2 kilos.
After all satisfied their hunger at the sausage sizzle the event of the day for all, the Tug O war took placed. Girls v Boys was won by the girls only after Mozzie came onto the girls side. Then came the Resssies v Seniors.
One all and the decider was won by the Ressies and after much postering by a defeated Seniors team the Ressies were declared winners.
Everybody wanted Mozzie on their side and as it was about to start the Ressies slipped in their secret weapons Mozzie and Fiona.
It was a one sided affair after that.
Then it was a free fall all on the tug o war as the kids took over it was the hit of the day.
The kicking at the barrel was also extremely popular.
The over 40-s sprint lined up and after the big talk from a certain barman about it being in the bag much interest was being shown. the Bear, official starter was talked into a handicap event with Brad starting off from scratch
The starters flag went down and the race was over in record time (mostly because we had no previous times)
and the winner the wily old Silver Fox had won the trophy.
Now the Bear is not much of a runner himself prefering to shuffle along these days but his suggestion for certain blokes carrying a bit more weight than their playing days would be to train next year.
No oyxgen bottles were needed in the running of the race.
Then the main event of the day the 100 metres blue ribbon sprint.
A good field for this event, even the one armed Whisky took to the field unfortunately with his caste he would have been better suited to a weight for age race.
Down went the flag and already controversy as Tails was left behind at the start.
Halfway and any ones race except for the weighed down Whisky.
A very big push at the end saw the Mighty Adam Ant take out the inaugaral event.
The jelly bean count was won by Peter Busch not bad hadn't seen him around the club for awhile pops up and wins the jelly beans with an exact guess of 417 ( he said it was not a guess but scientific study)Yeah right!
The Bear would like to thank all concerned with making the day the success it was and if you didn't get there your loss, make sure you front next year.
A great time by all including a good turn up of netball girls.
