It has taken 7 attempts but the Cup is finally in the Swans Clubhouse.
Since its inception the Swans have never won it but that all changed when the reserve grade knocked off the second placed Tigers to join them on 24 points on the ladder.
The Colts got the Swans off to a good start with a comfortable win on Wednesday night but the real heroes for the Swans were the Under 14s who picked up on Saturdays first game where the Colts left off to give the Club a 2 nil break in the overall standings. After a slow start to the season the U14’s are notching up crucial wins and have now a real chance of making the finals. Well done to Scot and the boys.
The U16’s tried gallantly but were no match for the highflying Tigers. So with 2 games left the Swans had a 2-1 lead and only had to win 1 more match to claim the cup. Stalwarts at the Club would be forgiven for thinking been there done that as the Tigers have won both seniors games in the past to win the day.
The reserves match was very evenly contested and at half time the Swans held a slender 5 point lead.
The third quarter didn’t give up any indication of who would win either but the Swans did manage to increase their lead to 10 point at the last break to set up a thrilling final 20 minutes.
The trend of the match didn’t alter in the last with the Swans edging a little further ahead as the term wore on and the realisation became evident that the club would add its first bit of silverware to the new clubhouse.
In the end the margin was 16 points and the Swans took an unbeatable lead into the final match of the day. The Tigers won that game but the Swans took the overall honors 3-2.
