Curra Swans ruckman Josh Hall was today drafted with the Gold Coast Suns by way of the 2011 AFL Rookie Draft.
Josh was selected at pick 94 by the Suns to end months of speculation where he would end up. It was rumored 2 other clubs were interested in Josh but in the end it was the Club that had shown the most interst that selected him.
Josh played for the Gold Coasts reserves team in the NEAFL this year and has been training with the Suns recently.
The Curra Swans Football Club is proud to have been associated with Josh and wish him all the best in his new career at the Gold Coast.
Congratulations must also go to Peter Young for helping Josh get to this most exciting day and to Kathleen for her incredible efforts in getting Josh’s fitness to the level required to give Josh a chance of making it.
Gold Coast Recruiting Manager, Scott Clayton had this to see about the selection.
“We were a bit more speculative with Josh. He's a young guy from Townsville out of our academy zone. He's a high jumper who hasn't played footy much. He was on an Australian Athletics scholarship for high jump and at one stage was training hard trying to quality for the London Olympics. He played in our NEAFL team during the year at Metricon Stadium as a curtain-raiser to an AFL game and got intoxicated with our game. There's obviously a lot of work to be done, but we're very pleased to get him.”
Selection 94 - Queensland Selection
Josh Hall
The Gold Coast SUNS recruit another Queenslander, with North Queensland’s Josh Hall being selected by the club in the 2011 Rookie Draft.
An elite High Jumper from Townsville, Hall has been playing football for just two years.
Gold Coast SUNS Talent Academy Manager Andrew Johnston saw Hall training with his local team while in North Queensland with the SUNS Academy.
With the recruiters the next to watch Hall, it wasn’t long before he was invited down to train with the GC SUNS NEAFL team.
