The Curra Swans Football Club is excited to announce the appointment of Mark Chambers (Chinny) to the Senior coaching role for the 2012 season.
Mark came to the club at the back end of the 2011 season and made an immediate impact both on and off the field. A tough no nonsense footballer Chambers intends building on the work done by previous Coach Peter Young in developing the playing group into a formidable opponent.
Last year when the Swans were in winning positions their opposition saw the only way to stop them was to be more physical. With the Swans having such a young list that tactic worked more often than not. Not in 2012 according to Chambers. The Swans have recruited some good players who will add more strength to the list and combined with the style Chambers intends to develop other teams will need more than just getting physical to overcome his charges.
Chambers feels he doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel for the Swans to be successful this coming season. We will build on what we did last year with Youngie, add a bit more strength and become more physical ourselves. Combine that with our pace and skill and we see ourselves in a great position to have a successful year, Chambers said.
Club President Peter Johnson said it didn’t take long to see the enthusiasm Chambers had and the committee had no hesitation in appointing him to the role after seeing his presentation. Mark will add another dimension to this group that can only make it harder for other teams to beat us. As a Club we were aware some opposition saw the only way to beat us last year was to intimidate our lads with a more physical approach. It worked on occasion, nothing wrong with that and all above board but it won’t work in 2012. Our list is bigger and stronger, our coach will lead from the front and we see our main weakness of last year being one of our strengths this year. We as a Club are very excited and we can’t wait for the season to start. We have a new coach who is very enthusiastic about the coming season, new players and we have appointed Trevor Rial as the Reserve Grade Coach. Trevor and Mark are similar players and get along really well, so that is a good combination. Its all looking good said Johnson.
Meet and greet the new coach next Thursday at the Clubhouse at 5.30pm.
There will be a player meeting on Thursday the 5th January with the first training run set down for Tuesday January 10th.
